Hi everyone, I have had a productive month of decluttering so far.
This week I have decluttered:
4 bags of books (probably 50-60 books) and random bits to a charity shop,
several broken electricals to the recycling centre
and some old paint tins to the tip
a bag of clothes for charity which will be picked up on Monday.
I've also given some hair straighteners to someone through a wastenot group.
I'm hoping to declutter my wardrobe and more of my books over the Easter break and to list some clothes on Vinted.

Just back from the school disco, it was a roaring success and the young DJ did amazingly well. Lots of dancing, zooming round and many sweets were consumed19

We have signed up for the plastic count again this year and we are certainly getting some shocking number in. This is also assisting with getting some decluttering done. Bottles UU from under the sink. UU store cupboard stuff - those items that sit in a tin or plastic box together forever. There is only the 2 of us I'll let you know how we get on. Sadly we have to travel to get rid of the soft plastics but do combine it with a trip to the store. I've already got a bag in the back of the car waiting to go to. These bags are what I would use in the kitchen waste bin - so definitely not small.
Other small bit have gone this week like pens and 3 plastic propelling pencils - some of these were inherited from parents house clear out. There is a substantial amount of new ones at their current location. I am definitely my mothers daughter when it comes to these items. Grateful that they take up little space.
Gratification of success comes in different sizes yet it all counts

I've done a bit of a sylo on our little TV room which has a lot of art deco influences (apart from the TV of course lol). Everything out including the cupboard, room painted and every thing looked at before going back in. Room feels huge now and very peaceful. Wasn't brave enough for the befores but heres some afters. Weve put down a rug which has been folded up in a cupboard for a while. As the room is north facing the Redcastle helped make it feel warmer. Cupboard is very empty now (room on the shelf for our half eaten malteser bar) the hoover will fit in there now, it currently moves about the house as we had nowhere allocated to store it. It might mean the little cat bed will have to move as I doubt she will want to be near hoover however she hasn't used her cupboard bed for a while now.

It is my last day of antibiotics and I'm feeling back to normal again! Yay.
I have rearranged my underwear drawer and binned two pairs of knickers. I cleaned the bathroom and moved the furniture around a bit in a few rooms. I'm trying to picture what it will look like when my brother collects the furniture.
I booked my cats in to the cattery for July and they sent me a confirmation email so I deleted all the other emails apart from that one! I was hanging on to messages that I never use.
My husband took the donation bag the other day to the shop. I did give him one of my tshirts as I find the neckline uncomfortable.
I did recycle two glass jars that I don't need and took the recycling outside.
It feels like Spring today. Very mild and sunny. 🤩18 -
I managed some crafting time yesterday making Easter cards.
I was asked to open up the SA hall for donations in the afternoon and then locked up in the evening.
A friend came round to fix the loose handle on our bathroom door.
This morning I have been to SA - lot of donations came in which I sorted. Now home and want to finish the cards that are wip.
Jobs wise - I have a pair of trousers to shorten for a Church friend. Also got bunny bags to make for Easter chocolates.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Hi all, slowish day yesterday but some wind
. I started with a session of self care then emptied the lr bin first thing and grabbed a bag from the room of doom which I thought had spare purses in. Unfortunately only a couple on the top but 1 went into the cs bag. I continued looking and found 2 that I could live with and have put them in my bedside draw so I know where they are when the inevitable happens
. The bag has gone back into the rod for another day
. I went into ln for a coffee and took the body lotion I had rooted out for her and as another friend was visiting and it was her birthday I quickly wrote a card from my stash and took that in with me
. Her son came to collect her and I asked if they had cake for tea, no, apparently no time to go and get one. I said I called that deprived and if it were me I would be talking about it for the next year just to make sure I got one next year
. Luckily ln had got a very nice apple sponge from m&s for her which we had with our coffee
. When I got back home I found OH was embarking on another batch cook, leek and potatoe soup and had filled the lr bin with various peelings etc as well as other bits of carp from around the couch. I was so chuffed that a bit of chucking carp had been done without me saying a word I emptied the bin again
. Then I was out for the footy
.
This morning I have noticed that most of our plastic containers have been used with the batch cooking over the past few days but we seem to have loads more lids than containers. How does that happen, I know when I last sorted them I matched all the lids to containers and recycled odd ones. So that is my first job to be done today when I stop fiddling around on the computerI am also determined to do some ironing today, it is looking at me accusingly
@daisy_1571 that room looks lovely. I love the rug and those units next to the tv. I have a bit of a thing for little draws
Right off to do something, hugs to anybody who would like one

As I'm off to work just before 5, a quick update:
923-926: as it was bin day today, 2 bags of rubbish and 2 bags of recycling taken to the downstairs bins
927-936: packaging to recycling
937-940: folder and dividers emptied, contents to recycling or shredding.
941-942: 100 emails deleted
942: more shredding including old credit card (shredded paper doesn't get recycled here so it can all go in the same batch
943-978: 36 GB data deleted
Also: 6 30 minute sessions on the record collection, removing torn price labels, regluing sleeves, identified some to get cleaned and some to sell. Also rearranged the blurays and DVD's and filed some in alphabetical order. I'm including all that (and the folder) on the deferred decisions total which is now at 70. (This is my term for stuff that's needed doing for a while.)

2scratters, go for it. Walk away from it and don’t look back. ❤️
well done Fizz.
Excellent news London 1.
Lovely bright room Daisy.
Mrs SD, I see canal dwellers walking through the village, they always have many layers of clothes on and look a bit "Swampy", remember him? Better that your SIL found out it wouldn't be the life for her before committing to buying a boat.
I have been awol for a bit,I haven't been too well. I managed to get an appointment at the Doctor's the same day of asking. I am still having issues with my blood pressure n shiz.I have caught up with the thread but I can't remember everything I wanted to comment on, including the newbies name,so sorry but Hello. we all look forward to hearing how you get on.
TC77, you are very hard on yourself. I think you seem like you are meeting yourself coming back you have so much on. If you love the coffee pots why can't you keep them? Don't force yourself to get rid of stuff. Display them, put flowers in them. You will know when the time is right to let stuff go. I have kept things for years, packed them and moved house numerous times and one day I just think, this can go.
Also, keeping stuff for your kids. Here is my experience. It was great when they went off to uni to be able to give them things for example bedding and kitchen things. Once they got their own places and partners, developed their own taste they were very fortunate enough to buy what they wanted. So don't keep everything for justin. If there is a specific thing they would like then that's ok but everything else that you don't need can go and benefit someone else who needs/wants/loves it. I have asked the kids what they would like from the house. My eldest daughter doesn't want anything, youngest daughter wants some specific curtains and a specific mirror,my son wants some big brown drawers that were my Dad's.
When I pop my clogs everything else can go to charity. My thinking is, well if the kids don't want it and if I don't love it or use it I am doing them a favour by rehoming it now rather than later. when I may not be able. Case in point I am emptying my Mothers house that she should have seen to 20 years ago.
I don't know if you need to get a professional in, or perhaps you need a deadline to push you. I think you have one,you said you wanted to move house. I am giving myself deadlines to empty my Mum's. I am doing it room by room,I find it easier to see my progress that way.
Your house looks lovely and if it were mine I would do what others here have done and completely empty a room perhaps leaving big furniture in place and only put back the essentials. If that means you have a room of doom that's ok as the things in there are in storage, waiting to be processed. As long as you do process when you can,and of course don't add to it or store stuff for the kids. My Mum still has stuff of my brothers at her house. He obviously doesn't want or need it after it being there 50 years! I will add a photo of my coffee pot and tea pot. I love them and they are on display in my bedroom and bathroom. Most of all don't despair. You are a busy person. Give yourself a realistic timescale to do one room/space/shelf but keep at it until that job is done then have a rest, congratulate yourself and move on to the next bit. Many hugs xxx
I am amazed that I continue to find stuff to go. There is natural wastage such as a broken key chain, also shirt too big, knitting up wool into jumpers and also coming across things and having that eureeka moment. This week it has been a huge colander,I have a smaller one and some work top treatment,I have new different treatment at this house. So via thrift site, bin and charity donations a few more bits have left the building.
Exciting times, there is some space under the sink.
New number out. 226
