6. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Wednesday is a drier day - even had some sunshine although it has now clouded over 😔 ERNIE was kind to me but very kind to DH 😉 At the moment I am struggling to catch up with the EDT but I am about to sit at the dining room table & get going - wish me luck 🍀
Moorviews, nice to see you 👋 Sorry to hear that 2023 was another difficult year 😔 Hopefully 2024 will be better & you will make progress in your decluttering especially persuading the offspring to remove ALL their bits & bobs 🤞That will probably be the bulk of the attic contents 🤣 As long as you only vacuumed on New Years Day, I think you should be fine 😊 Thank you for the lovely compliment & I will accept both of your suggestions “She truly is a ⭐️ herself and deserves a 🥇 for getting us going into 2024.” 👏
~FlowerPot~, I am hungry for awards so thank you, thank you, thank you for my 🎖️
flamingo747, your target is duly noted 🙂 I hope Mr Flamingo is enjoying his new job & has managed to book a Tip run for the coming weekend 🤞The weather for the first couple of days of 2024 has been truly atrocious (good job it isn’t St Swithins 😱) Yippee to bins being emptied 🥳 We were very lucky - only a day late for the rubbish & 2 days for the recycling 🙂 Really hope that your car passed its MOT 🤞🤞
Welcome back from the IoW, London_1, lovely to see you 😊 You sound completely re-energised & you have already made a great start on your 2024 decluttering 👏 Hope the weather improves enough so that you can have your daily walk🤞
Welcome aboard the EDT Florafauna 👋 Sounds like you would give Linford Christie a run for his money with your sprinting speed 😊 You can now rest in the TLC Carriage & have a chat with your fellow declutterati whilst deciding if you want to set a target 😉 Meanwhile, good luck with your Projects - saving money, losing weight & training for a half marathon 🍀
Lovely to see you ruby_eskimo 👋 Champing at the bit & raring to go 🥳 Shame you have had to wait for your new bedroom carpet but it does mean the decluttering has a specific purpose 😉 Very kind of your DH to help his dad this weekend 😇 which means that you will be able to declutter with no interference 😉😉 It is very exciting - a potential house move is an excellent motivator 😊 Good luck 🍀
Of course you can join us Jibergurt 😊 That sounds like an excellent method of decluttering - Declutter daily, dispose of weekly 👏 Hope you can enjoy your new 2 day working week 😊 Do remember though that decluttering should be interspersed with TLC 🙏 so do pop into the TLC Carriage 😊
Of course you can join us FlacosFloozie - I am loving seeing all these new faces 😊 Well done on your major declutter in 2020 👏 I sometimes think the easy part is the actual decluttering 🤔 Maintenance of a clutter free home is hard as the clutter seems intent on creeping back in - you think I will put that away ‘lateR on’ or I will keep that ‘just in case’ & then all of a sudden you are overrun with Rons & Justins 😥 I am really looking forward to seeing how you get on with the ‘Minimalist Game’ 🙂 Good luck 🍀
Well that was 75 minutes of cheerleading so I will post & have a 20 minute break & come back 🙂
DH has been busy - he filled the bird feeders, fed the worms & the compost bins & did the washing up 👏 The soup he made yesterday is delicious 🤤 & there is enough for 2 more days lunches for 2 🥳
Timer set & will see you soon 👋

Siebrie, I am sorry for the loss of your friend.
I slept 13 hours last night and feel better for it. The lurgy has stopped raging and is now more manageable.
We have been out starting the first steps of Mr V's pre op stuff for his cancer treatment.
Now! my declaration of recording everything I bring into the house may already be embarrassing me. I also said I would try to buy new to me with the exception of under wear and toiletries. So as we were out n about I bought the right size and colour of fairy lights for the new to me artificial tree. Also 2 pairs of thermal socks. Lights are new, I don't want to buy old lights. Where I fell down, we went in a charity shop to kill time as today is my cleaners day. A beautiful black and white hounds tooth check short jacket which fits like a glove has come home with me. It's only the 3rd of January! I think recording everything I bring in will be very revealing. I won't record Mr V's purchases, it's too boring, just wires.
I am not going to list everything that goes out as I have done previously as I can easily get a bit obsessed. I had a good clear out of clothes in my chest of drawers last week so:-
Items in 4
Items out 40
Some for the chazzer, some given to daughters and some for bit by bit... bottle bags for fund raising thing, bits for inside the bottle bags.
I will save the bigamy tale for another time when the train has slowed to a mere gallop.

Floss I did offer it to Ben, and it was what he exactly said, ;( It was not meant in any derogatory way as Ben has taught there for several years and knows the area and the troubles the parents are going through. often they just have trouble accessing services in inner London and he does his best to help the kids out as much as he can.
I have a local charity to me called Gillingham Street Angels I may pop in and see if they can use or sell it.They raise funds for local people who are struggling to eat or clothe their children My DD suggested it this afternoon, they do quite a lot locally and have a free uniform shop for folk with children needing school uniforms as well as run food banks and a cafe for people to find an inexpensive meal at. Although the south eat is supposed to be an affluent area there are pockets of real hardship in the Medway for many people. I used to be in an organisation that helped with homelessness. There were several veterans living on the streets and in one case there was a lady sleeping rough under the Rochester bridge. We had a young man actually die in his tent sleeping rough in the winter within sight of the local council offices where the heating and lights were blazing awayhe was 23 poor guy.

Another day in the TLC carriage but definitely on the mend. I'm at that stage where I feel I "should" be doing something productive and have to keep reminding myself that I am meant to be resting.
Because I have very little self-discipline, I decided to get rid of the chocolate from the house. Compost for the few remaining ones in the open box - & unopened box to go to food bank tomorrow.
Tasks
Another bite sized chunk of accounts done
Messaged company about a return of a shower hose that has already broken.
Renewed 60+ Oyster card

1. Reading lamp

2 & 3 - 2 x floating bedside tables

Neutral items another 28 packed up and sent to the organiser. It is handy that this organiser now has storage as I’m involved with another charity cause and I’m having to store charity items for them until Sept at least, worth it for the money saved with bargains picked up but it is nice when the items depart the house for the relevant good cause projects
Neutral items so far = 58
General decluttering
5) big job lot of cardboard now in recycling
6) batteries recycled
7) kept knocking over an old aerosol for waterproofing. Hardly anything in it and didn’t even know it was there. Recycling
8) didn’t get time to put it in 2023 but a mahooosive frog I started work on in 2023, finally completed just before Christmas. Such a massive relief.
Slowly building up a bag of items for the charity shop

Straight into cheerleading 😉
Excellent decluttering of boys room Mamaofmanybudgets 👏 You are on fire 🤩 even picking out a 2nd task 👏 Good news about not having to purchase several pairs of trousers 🥳
Millie2008_2, sorry to hear that you were ill in 2023 & that RL then conspired to keep you away from us 😉 However, now that you have reported in & had such a successful decluttering year 🥳 I am pleased to confirm that the 2023 Awards post has been updated & you now have the FOUR GOLD STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ that you rightfully earned - Congratulations 🥂 So welcome back & hopefully 2024 will be illness-free & slightly quieter at work 🤞
Welcome back bit_by_bit 👋 You certainly did have a very hectic last 4 months - family issues, family visits, DD moving back in, decluttering (for yourself & others) like a Tasmanian Devil and all that with illness overshadowing you 🤩 Talk about stoic - “Before getting officially sick I had taken to micro jobbing. 5 mins hear and 10 mins there. I realise now that I was already sick (with a virus) but thought I was just tired. I found this to be a very effective weapon in my armoury and will continue with it.” I am so very pleased to see you emerge from the TLC Carriage & seemingly fighting fit for 2024 😊 Targets noted & good luck for 2024 🍀 although I see that you have already made a great start 👏
flamingo747, keeping everything crossed that the MOT went well 🤞
Liverpool_Anne, lovely informative post & thank you for helping make Mamaofmanybudgets so welcome 🤗
What an excellent start to your Decluttering Journey, TheScarletPixie 👏 Your enthusiasm is contagious & you should be very proud 🥹 I especially like this bit “I set an original target of 2 items per day but I'm changing it to 2024 as now I'm looking at things differently I can see just how much can go!” 🤩
Excellent decluttering Florafauna 👏
Welcome back Crazycatlady2 👋 Sorry to hear that family & your ‘monthly’ are causing you stress 😔 I have made a note of your projects & although you won’t be counting I will keep an eye out to make sure you don’t miss out on awards through the year 😉 Please do remember to be kind to yourself 🙏 & pop into the TLC Carriage on a frequent basis 😊 Good luck with your 2024 projects especially getting hubby to sort out his workshop 🍀
Thanks for that AlwaysAllie 👏
Yippee Brie 🥳 When I post this you will have a living room full of kit ready for the kitchen renovation 😊👏 Fingers crossed that the Tip run took place & that the boxes of treasure were dropped off at the CS 🤞What a great start to your 2024 Decluttering Campaign 😊
Floss, so very sorry to hear that your ‘lurgy’ has developed into a chest infection requiring antibiotics 😔 Keeping absolutely everything crossed that you will head off on Monday fit & well so that you can thoroughly enjoy your holiday 🤞
Yesterday certainly was nasty weather, wishus especially that wind 💨 😧 Pleased to hear that there are brave souls who are keen to help you declutter 😅 Excellent work 👏
Welcome aboard oystercatcher 👋 Well done on getting started - 20 minutes a day of decluttering will soon mount up & you will see a difference fairly quickly 😊 especially if you end up doing more than one 20 minute sessions 👏
That was another 50 minute session (Sitting at the table is definitely helping 😉) so will post & start prepping dinner.

So this......
Is now this....
58 dvds down to a couple of inches in a drawer. Inserts will be recycled, might offer some of the cases on local site in case folk need replacements but otherwise they will be off to the tip. I will be carrying on with dvds then doing my cds.
I want the dvd/cd but storage of the cases is taking up too much space. Before I could not split these up. I don't know why. Perceived future value? Mass produced dvds are never going to be worth anything more than pennies. Just the fact that they came together ? Yes thats my usual way of thinking. Glad I just want them gone now. Hopefully all dvds will fit into a couple of drawers in the unit. I had been looking at buying some sort of 'system' but that would then have to sit on a shelf somewhere. Then I decided the sensible way is to buy paper envelopes and use the drawer units we already own that are sized to hold cds and dvds.
Now, how to count? Inches of space gained lol
