Gosh, that's good of them isn't it!0 -
Here is a M&S email reply to my questions I posted earlier on this thread, the policy regarding the Free P&P seems to differ from other posts:
1. Why is the dispatch stage over 1 1/2 weeks long?
We have had a very busy Festive Season we looking at ways of improving this.
2. Why are you not able to cancel the order when it is the 'dispatch stage'?
The goods will have left and been allocated to different orders, we follow a
pattern , once you get the items return them and we will refund you in full.
3. Why do you apply delivery costs when YOU cancelled the two items, not me, the customer?
The offer for the sale says offer of freedel for items over £30.00 if under because of
stock being out of stock del charge applies- stock availability not guaranteed
this is clearly stated on the terms and conditions- see website.
4.Why do you admit the 'inconvenience' to me , but do nothing about it?
I have issued you a £10.00 promo which you can redeem on your next online order.
5. Why can YOU not contact YOUR carrier and tell them to cancel the delivery to MY address?
Regarding your order this was loaded on the vehicle for delivery to you today,(This was estimated to be 8THJan!!)
we operate from different sites and carry hundreds of parcels everyday
6.Why is the website so sloooww at updating the stock situation
On our website we try to make sure we only show you items that are available to buy and we refresh our availability information every 15 minutes. Occasionally, when a product is popular or during sale periods and special offers, it is possible for a number of customers to order the last item at the same time. We're working on our availability systems to try and prevent this in the future.
Very very poor excuses
Keep well away from M&S0 -
My order was due to arrive by the 2nd Jan...each day another item has been cancelled and I have an estimated despatch by 21st Jan now! I have telephoned and explained the large scale of complaints. I was friendly on the phone, but felt sorry for the girl who answered as she said she has had many calls. She explained it was hard due to the large amount of orders placed and the website couldn't cope, but I know that is not good enough as Next don't suffer like that (although Debenhams are as bad as M&S). Amazon are good too usually and they run the M&S online service.........
I am not surprised though as I placed orders totalling £700 in the summer and received just over £10 worth!0 -
Just read this thread and I'm really shocked to learn that M&S have been getting it so badly wrong for such a long time. I put an order in a few days ago and I'm waiting with baited breath to see what happens.
But what really stands out is the way they add P+P charges when the order falls below £30 because their stock control systems are defective. Not only does this show an arrogant disregard for good customer service, but I'm sure that legally they're not allowed to do this without your permission. You have given your credit card details to M&S on the strict understanding that delivery is free! But M&S seem to be treating your credit card details as a blank cheque. Well they can't do this - end of story.
It might also be worth people contacting their banks if this happens, to report that unauthorised money is being debited from their cards.
Oh, and definitely one for Watchdog - they'd love to know that a flagship British retailer has been behaving so badly.0 -
Well I placed 2 orders at midnight on 25th - both within 5 mins of each other - the first order arrived today minus 1 item but I was still over the £30 so wasn't too concerned. However my second order has not been processed yet!! I'm not holding my breath on that one.......Started comping 5th Nov '07. Challenge to pay off £600 card balance within 12 months
Winnings so far - none :rotfl:0 -
Something to be wary of when (if?) you do get your orders through. I had an email saying that my order had been dispatched - detailing 22 items. Having checked the delivery, there's only 21 items. One item missing. I have had to ring their CS and tell them. Fortunately, the agent was able to check (although it took ages) the parcel summaries and she agreed it had been missed off and therefore has refunded me the cost of that item. If I hadn't rung, I would have bee charged for it.0

Hello
2 orders made at around £30 each.
1st order made 11.30pm Christmas Eve - 8 items ordered - 2 end up out of stock!
2nd order made 12.45am Christmas Day - 10 items ordered - 10 end up out of stock!
I'm SO glad their Chairman got a knighthood for 'turning the store around'. Lets hope he'll get an e-mail from the Queen saying that the Knighthood has 'gone out of stock' too and offer him a £10 off from his next purchase with her majesty!

This happened to me too - received an email telling me that my order was "complete" and had been despatched, comprising of 11 items. I received said order yesterday - with only ONE item out of the 11!! I too had been charged for the full 11 items! I called the CS line, where I was on hold for about 10 minutes, to be told the rest of the items "are to follow in January" - I told them that nowhere on my statement or email does it actually mention this - it just says that the entire order (ie the 11 items) had all been despatched - I also get the feeling that had I not phoned up, M&S would happily have charged me £140-odd (ie for the 11 items) when I only in fact received one £19 handbag!!
In a nutshell I am still waiting for the remainder of the order, which I cannot cancel as I have been charged for it. Like many of you, I placed orders just before midnight on the 24 December, most of which have slowly disappeared from my order page - some I have received email notifications for, others have simply been quietly removed without notice.0 -
I see on my Credit Card that M&S have refunded part of my order - the one part that hasn't been dispatched yet (although it still says "to be dispatched soon"), so I'm guessing from my statement that I'm about to get an email to tell me that it's out of stock.
At least it was only a £1.50 kids' t-shirt.' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
From my first order placed just before midnight on Xmas Eve, totalling £115.50, one item went out of stock, and one item, for £15 was delivered today, with no delivery charge.
From my second order, placed just after midnight, 2 items went out of stock. 2 items totalling £18, again with no delivery charge were disptached on 27th, but not yet received. 2 items totalling £26, again with no delivery chagres, were dispatched on 29th and received today.
From my third order, again placed just after midnight, 1 item went out of stock. The other item is still awaiting disptach, but as this is only £17, there is a £3.50 delivery charge showing online. I will have to wait and see how much I am charged if I get this item.
I would love to know what has happened to my first order.
Also, I ordered a dinner suit for my son on 22 December. When I got the cancellation email, only about the jacket, I decided to cancel the trousers. As I was advised by a CS in store that this was a stock item, I decided to re-order just the jacket, as I could get the trousers in store. I was advised by CS on line, that the order would remain pending until the item came back into stock. When I checked my credit card statement, there was an M&S transaction for £30, which I did not recognise. I was told on Friday, that this is for the DJ (which is out of stock), and which has been dispatched.
I do not know what they are doing, and I don't think they know what they are doing.
I have just this minute looked at my cc statement. My account was credited with £30, and then debited with £30. I have also been charged £17, which I believe is for the jacket which was only £13.50. I do believe I will be having some fun with someone on Wednesday morning.0
