The trouble is that it is the same level of service (or lack of) when there isn't a sale on.
I placed an order early Summer, no sale items, all in stock and saying usually despatched within 1 day. 3 days later my estimated deliverly date gets put back although the items were still showing as in stock on the website. Couple of days later the same thing happens again, so I call them and get told that an item I had ordered was now out of stock and this was holding up the rest of my order.
Long story short is that I placed this order 4 weeks before I was going on holiday and expected to get the order well before my departure date. Because of various p!ssing around by Marks the order actually turned up whilst I was away. Over 4 weeks to receive an order when according to the website everything was in stock just isn't good enough.
Loads of other websites manage to handle their sales online without as much trouble. Why can't Marks and Spencers?0 -
Hello?
People are having items cancelled after they have ordered them, not whilst in their basket. Try reading the posts properly before commenting.

Hello?
As for me, i tried to place an order, cancelled it though as knew i had zero chance of actually receiving it. Ive had much better luck with Next, placed an order last night with no problems, if Next can do it, why cant m&s?
.
I had the exact same issues with next, except next dont even email you to tell you an item isn't arriving, it just arrives in dribs and drabs then stops completely, its only if you phone that Next tell you the item isn't coming, surely I'm not the only person who has had this? I wont use them online anymore.0 -
a few people on this thread have said they have had their items go out of stock
Imagine if you'd decided not to go to the sales because you bought all your bargains from M&S online, only to find out days later that they never had the stock in the first place? You've missed your chance to go and buy instore, so M&S have really screwed you over.
For a company which supposedly prides itself on the quality of its customer service this really is appalling and unacceptable.
Personally I bought nothing from M&S in the online sale because I wouldn't trust them not to let me down. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
then dont buy them from the online store and go into store to buy it you always take a risk when buying online .0

And how many other comments on this thread detailed that people had out of stock notification via email in the three days following putting in their order?
I have no idea why you are defending M&S the way you are but I think no matter how big or busy they claim to be, it is unacceptable to take and confirm orders when they are clearly unsure of stock levels.
Fair enough if something goes out of stock before you have confirmed your order, but its not fair for it to go out of stock when you have an email in your inbox telling you that you have bought it.
It is nonsense to say that you are taking a risk when ordering online. Yeah maybe with non-delivery, but it shouldn't be a risk of the company not having the thing you were ordering in the first place. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
why I defend Marks and Spencer after 35 years of shopping there as a family they have been amazing to us in stores and have really been kind to us at times of family bereavement and such.
You do every single time you place an order there is always the possibility of a item being out of stock . I hope a lot of you get your orders but at the end of the day its sales time a lot of people will be dissapointed.0 -
You normally dont have a contract with them until they take payment though, so although you do have 'confimation' you still dont really ahve confirmation, iyswim? Do M + S offer express delivery? I imagine these orders get packed first so more likely to be complete.
I agree that the service is terrible, sounds like far more fun actually going to the shop and putting up with the crowds.0 -
What gets most of us, is that until the new website that arrived this summer, they had none of these problems.
The website seemed to keep real stock updates, and 99% of what you ordered, you recieved. However it did get painfully slow during sales.
Then this new web is much faster but none of the stock control accuracies.
When I failed to get any of the items I ordered in the July sale, the managers admitted they knew of this fault on their website and were doing their best to correct it. Its now 6 months later and its still not fixed.
I love M & S and am happy to order from them still, but as I have little confidence in recieving all that I order, so made the effort to go instore to see if I can purchase the items and return any that arrive.See the stars they’re shining brightEverything’s alright tonight0 -
