Evening everyone, hope you are all OK.
Well, it's been a productive day. This was my to-do list this am:- Wrap spare child's book and drop it off somewhere - done except I didn't wrap it because I thought it would be better if they knew what it was. In the end, I took it to the Sallie Army building about 1/2 mile away. They were very grateful.
- Post cards - done
- Make labels for Christmas gift packages - done
- Wrap Christmas presents and label them - ongoing. By the time I'd finished colouring in all the parcel tags, it was too late to start on wrapping. That can be done tomoz
- Go to a walk-in covid vax chemist (nearest is about five miles away) and get jabbed - get flu jab at same time if possible. I should have done this ages ago but will do now particularly as DS is unwell and I'll probs see him over the weekend. Mind you, I'm a bit concerned, I've sent him a 'how are you?' text message this am but there's been no reply so far. I'll leave it until lunchtime to call. Covid vax done. but they had run out of flu jabs. But I can probably get that next week when I go for my ECG. DS did get in touch in the end -he's feeling a tiny bit better. He cut his work trip to London short by a day and came home on a lunch-time train as they are emptier. He's now home and did a covid test which is -ve. However, I've told him I don't want him here for dinner while he's still only two days in with whatever horrible thing he has. I offered him a home delivery but he's declined it.

Hi all
Thank you for thinking of me. Father has been taken to hospital and had the veins in his legs sorted, Mother has been whisked around the shops to get Christmas presents. We have also been to the big City to collect some things that DS2 wanted to bring home. All of this went without a hitch including me negotiating a stupidly busy hospital drop off and collect area, and as you know I don't like driving at the best of times.
Back to the paid stuff today, I have a sickly headache that paracetamol has taken the edge off but not completely shifted. Won't be late to bed.
I have managed to buy DS a 2023 diary online, good job I noticed before I wrapped it up. I can send it back.
Whizzed around with the cordless hoover, washing over the airer, house is mostly clean and tidy. Is it the Christmas holidays yet?10 -
Dining room cleaned; CD towers moved so that I can fit the hot cabinet in - which I have assured the Aged Ps I will be returning - but although they seem to think they use it, at the moment it's just being used to store stuff in.
bank a/c spreadsheet up to date; DD information checked and updated.
Tea wat pasta and meatballs with hm tomato sauce which was, frankly, delicious.
Towels popped onto maiden to air properly before being put away.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Sorry I don't know how to make photos smaller for this site - any suggestions? I used to put a link via photobucket but that isn't free any more.
As well as doing the flowers, I have been to Pilates, had a drum lesson, delivered local cards, posted the last ones which have to be posted and double-checked the card list. Currently in the middle of trying to clear the dining room table which was covered in card and present stuff as well as gibble from the conservatory. Frantically trying to find the card I'm sure I bought for Mum; no sign of it and although it could be under any pile, I feel as if I've looked everywhere....perhaps I imagined buying it.
State of house/conservatory: building is finished; floorboards down; Mr N is sanding/varnishing the window sills. Monday we can start putting plants back in. Tuesday the vinyl flooring goes down so the furniture can go back in. Then we might have our house back.
Domestically, I've put away dry washing and done some washing up/wiping down.
I've started writing up yesterday's assessment.
Tomorrow we drive to Hampshire for a family lunch then to Mum's until Sunday.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.10 -
@Narc0lepsy I remember 15% mortgage rates too - a terrible time for so many. Prices plunged and many, myself included, were in negative equity. I was fortunate to come through that but it was difficult. Lovely flowers btw.@YORKSHIRELASS hope your father is ok and will be out soon.Yesterday A's cousin and her husband came so I spent the day cooking, serving food and washing up (and a bit of talking). It was nice to see them but hard work, especially as A's niece came for supper the night before. This morning I went into the West End to buy a few Christmas presents. I rarely go there these days but wanted a couple of things from specific shops and also wanted to browse rather than buy online. On the way back I stopped off at a florist that also sells Christmas trees and bought a small-ish tree. Delivery is included in the price, which is good. Went home and prepared lunch and washed up. Helped A with some personal admin and printed something for a neighbour whose printer had run of ink and she needed something printing urgently.I received an email from someone I know only slightly, but with whom I have had a recent email exchange. The email asked me to confirm I'd received it. Perhaps I should have smelled a rat then but the tree had just arrived and various other things were happening so I just quickly replied and said I had. He then replied, in perfect and polite English which sounded rather like him, to say he was stuck at the hospital with a shoulder problem and needed to buy an Apple gift card for his niece and would I mind doing it for him. At first I was puzzled as to why he would ask me as I don't know him very well, but then realised it was a scam. I don't know why I didn't realise instantly actually because I'm fairly clued up about such things and it was pretty obvious really. I just ignored the second email.I then removed the netting from the tree and stood it on a small table and put on the lights and other decorations; it looks really nice. After supper and washing up I packed the 40 boxes of biscuits for the charity event into two laundry bags. The bags weigh a ton but fortunately one of my neighbours has volunteered to take them to the car for me tomorrow. He may change his mind when he feels how heavy they are! I shall be very pleased to have the room rather than their company.Eye medication was then administered (I've missed a few time the last couple of days but I can't do/remember everything and I don't want an alarm going off every two and half hours - that would drive me mad). Final eye meds in a minute and then I can clean my teeth and go to bed I hope.

So, I went to bed with a headache and slept badly, the headache hasn't completely gone. I have decided to have a lazy day today. Bit of paid stuff to do at home then some presents to wrap and a bit of ironing to do. I have already given the kitchen a good clean and set the WM going.
I am going on a very rare night out with my volunteering group tonight. There will be a big group and a real mix of different people who are all lovely, and it's just a drink in a local pub which suits my socially awkward personality. I would have been nervous if it was a meal in a restaurant where you feel pressured to make small talk with the person next to you! I will drive so I can leave whenever I want. What a party animal I am!
Rigth need to get out of my pj's and do some work.10 -
Morning
@Cloth_of_Gold and @Narc0lepsy yes, I too was hit by the 15% (though I seem to remember 16% for some reason) mortgage rate in the early 1990s and the associated negative equity. But, I managed to get through it and still live in the same place today (now mortgage free).
I have a sore arm from the covid jab and feel a little off colour but my drug dealer is due in a bit with a repeat prescription so I can't go back to bed until he's been. I will do that though for an hour or so then have a v. quiet day - just wrap the Christmas presents and do some crossword puzzles I suspect.
