Maxjet Gone Bust

  • Hi Baconboy,

Sounds like the card company is trying to make life difficult for you, as their finance people will be able to do all the relevant checks. Anyway, I'd suggest pointing them in the direction of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (www.sec.gov) and Companies House. I've just had a look and there's not much there, but Maxjet has to file a form 8-K within 15 days of filing for chapter 11, so it should get updated very soon.

Did they ask for proof of what you actually purchased?

Hi all, still here in Vegas but are sorted for our trip home tomorrow with Virgin. Hope everyone got home safely, wonder if there is anyone left still out here that is waiting to get home, if so, don't trust MAXjet to phone you with details of your journey, sort it yourself. If you are in Vegas, go to the airport the day before and go to the Virgin desk, they will make sure you get on a flight if you show your confirmation details. If you are in New York, phone EOS the afternoon before you are due to travel, they should have your name on the list to fly, or if not, they will chase it up for you and keep you informed.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • There is no law governing this. Visa is the operator of the scheme and they offer the indemnity to their card holders. As a bank employee you should be trained in these matters.

Thanks for your advice - I had booked and paid for two tickets with Maxjet for August this year with my debit card at a cost of £1500. I wrote to the Visa Centre who deal with Lloyds debit cards in Southend, quoting all the information I had managed to glean from the internet and also including a quote from one of their Customer Service Managers who said that "if any of our debit or credit card customers pay for goods which they do not receive, we will reimburse them" and today received a full refund for £1500 paid direct into my account!

If anyone else has paid for tickets with Maxjet using their Visa debit card, I urge them to write to the Visa Centre in Southend to claim a refund:

Good to hear everyone got home safely. Turns out Maxjet gave the other people on our Virgin flight a hotel and it just happened to be the one we were staying in! Im hoping we can claim outr costs from our travel insurance, we had to pay Virgin $110 for an extra legroom seat, Easyjet £70 to change our flights back to Belfast and about £75 for our hotel. Will this be covered by cancellation cover?

Too true! If I hadn't read your post I would never have known I could get my money back - thanks again!!!
  • That's excellent news!

I've written to Mastercard to see whether it's possible to get any sort of rebate for my return journey. Please let me know if you have any experience with this route.

As long as you paid more than £100 on the mastercard you are covered under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act. Your mastercard issuer should refund upon request/proof of the collapse of Maxijet.

    Good luck!

I am dealing with Mastercard at the moment, and have just sent back a form they sent me to sign with a copy of my flight booking and the email from Maxjet confirming the bankruptcy. I was told that when they receive it I will get the full amount refunded to my card, plus any interest I have paid!.
It is now going smoothly now I am speaking to someone in this country.....
NO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........
