The 200 points look to be those delayed points from the 12th December event for just opting in.
I have a random 200 bonus points but the 12th is the session I missed completely and couldn't opt in (I woke up after it started!).
The 14th December session also had 200 bonus points for opting in.

After taking nearly a month to add my November bonus points (all will earn a minimum of 100 points), I'm pleased that I've had 2 lots of 200 added without such a long wait.
  • I have just had three lots of bonus points added, 400, 200 and 200, which appear to be for the 14th, 15th and 19th of December sessions, so I now up to £22.59 of points from the December sessions.

The next round of tests are slightly different in that if high enough participation levels are expected NGESO will be operating the tests with “competitive” pricing rather than the standard £3/kWh the tests have paid out up to this point (translates to £2.25/kWh for Octopus customers).
They didnt exactly pay a fortune the last lot of sessions - I can see interest in participation waning if rewards decreased further - at least for myself anyway 😊

Probably why they do what many "reward" sites do and reward in points because say a massive 200 point bonus seems more than a measly 25p reward.

    For replier and @SuzeQStan

And yet they all add up and that 25p may knock 2-4p off your electricity kWh price for that day. Then on the days of the saving events even 50p may knock off 4-8p for that days kWh price.

Something people normally wouldn't scoff at it's more likely people don't want to conform and use less during those times. The "I'm not listening when to use electricity for" type of view.

Just by way of example the saving sessions this December and all these 200/200/400 bonus points have reduced our December bill by 17%.

I have thought reading some Twitter posts maybe Octopus should give 200 points ( worth 25p) to the top 5% gullible customers.

Paying £2.25 per kWh which is one of the lowest payouts to end user rather than £3 per kWh which some of the others are paying, giving bonus points which sound a lot, fraction of what Octo are taking that others are not taking.

17% is very worthwhile as you say

but if the incentive drops even further from £2.25  as @bristolleedsfan says when DFS amount is £3, then I can’t see 🐙 getting their pound of flesh from a lower DFS offering.

gonna look into which energy suppliers are offering the full amount.  There are some good tariffs out there too.

EDIT: forgot to add - not sure I would be so keen to charge battery from/export to grid then likely having to run on grid power after doing all that export for a lesser amount than £6 which I was getting from the 1 hr £2.25 kWh sessions.

The so called dinosaur energy companies, EDF, Eon  and British Gas with British Gas also paying minimum £1 to all participants, no need to change energy supplier I think Hugo App are paying £3 per kWh for test sessions
  • That's good MSE advice with Hugo, they were much touted last year for paying full whack.

Personally I like the chance to win 888,888 Octopoints of the other offer they did at Xmas for £100 worth. As well as all the adhoc things.

I did also just buy a dog chew toy for £4 with Octopoints instead of £8 from the octoshop.

I don't know if Octopus are pocketing the 75p from each kWh saved or putting it back in for the good of everyone. But historically I suggest they appear to be an above board supplier.

I don't disagree they add up (and I do it for the cash value) but the 3 bonus payments are worth £1 while they choose to say 800 points, they are by no means the only site where a massive number of points is quoted instead of a cash value presumably for the same reasons both to encourage users and make direct comparisons less easy.

There are almost certainly people lured in by the number of points who wouldn't bother if the actual cash value was given
