On the topic of 1st November. Is it included? From the T&Cs:

These Terms and Conditions apply to the Weekend Happy Hours Savings Sessions (the “Sessions”), operated by Octopus Energy Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”). By participating, you agree to these Terms and Conditions in addition to the Saving Sessions Terms and Conditions and your standard electricity supply agreement. The Sessions are available from  00:00 12th August 2026 to 23:59 1st November 2026 (“Qualifying Period”).

So the 1st looks safe (as long as you are good at fastest finger first on the Thursday)

But interestingly further down it says:

    • By opting into this scheme you also agree that the Power Down sessions over the period from 00:00 12th August 2026 to 23:59 19 November 2026  will also count towards Weekend Happy Hours rewards in addition to any new Power Down session you participate in during the Qualifying Period.

    Slightly enigmatic...

Well I used 2 sessions , 4.4kWh , spent 2 hours playing Whackamole with IOF Which was determined to not allow my battery to charge, Octopus knows I have 2 sessions booked, but they make it most annoying not allowing me to switch things on and still change my battery, and solar which produced 5.7kWh over the 2 hours.

I don't recall Octopus ever bidding for a slot on a weekend, but my memory is not quite what it was.

Octopus says I've taken part in 57 saver sessions.

I've noticed that when everything is switched on during "happy hour" certain things take longer to charge.

I'm assuming there is only a certain amount of power that can come into the house at any one time and this slows down the time it normally takes to charge anything.

I'm assuming there is only a certain amount of power that can come into the house at any one time and this slows down the time it normally takes to charge anything.

Which "anythings" are you thinking of, specifically? Charging a phone or laptop is unlikely to be affected, but charging a home BESS or an EV is another matter.

When you draw power (current) from the grid, the resistance of the cables between your device, through your home and fusebox and the way to the substation serving it means the voltage drops.

Imagine that the voltage at the substation is 240 volts. If the resistance from there to your device is 0.4 ohms, drawing ten amps will result in the voltage dropping by 4 volts. If you draw 50 amps the voltage will drop by 20 volts.

This affects the power that's delivered to whatever you're charging. 10 amps at 240 volts is 2400 watts, but at 220 volts it's only 2200 watts.

Charging an EV at 32 amps, 240 volts would give you 7.68kW but 220 volts is only 7.04kW.
