Perhaps I'm being a little suspicious and thinking in the not too far distant future everyone will have their batteries and their EVs connected to the grid when not in use and capacity will simply be taken at times of high demand, once the technical changes have been made. Greg Jackson intimated similar not so long ago.
Interesting! Wouldn’t have a problem with it long as was compensated.

our EV does not have vehicle to grid - only vehicle to load. Not bidirectional.  I really wish we could export EV battery to grid would be a nice money maker. Regardless our standard inverter limits how much can be exported how quickly.

All we can do with vehicle to load is run the lawnmower, outdoor power tools etc on sunny/dry days as the port isn’t rainproof.

I think if you have batteries and getting an extra 12p kwh on top of the normal export rate it's better than most have been getting out of the energy market recently.

    Between 17:30 - 18:30 = agile approx 48p... export = (12 + 15 = 27p) ... Nah

Octopus Go 8.5p to charge batteries overnight and 27p to export 14-15p per kwh profit

As you are on GO you should have charge at 8.5p and getting 27p for export !

Don't have enough storage to last until early evening and with little solar at the moment we would need to charge up at 27p to export. It will be interesting to see how well this year saving session scheme goes though ;)

Genuine question - do we increase the possibility of future power cuts by not demonstrating we can "put something back" unless we're paid for the effort? I've signed-up and saved about half a kW in an hour just to show willing, really.
Why is it going to increase the possibility of possible power cuts? Clearly there is enough back up capacity to cover any shortfall.
Unless the powers to be decide to dump some power stations based on the fact people are prepared to cut back for ££?
You pay peanuts & these monkeys are going to go back to normal usage. It has to be worthwhile to cut back.

When you see the battery people sayings it not worth it, then for anyone else the though of sitting in the dark for a few pence is simply not worth the effort.

It has been proposed, but very few cars have the facility & chargers are really expensive that can handle it.
Personally not a bad idea, given the amount of cars sat on drives all day doing nothing & could be used for excess power produced & then run back to grid when needed.
Would certainly be a money saver for the companies, in not having to build as many battery storage facilities.

But we are starting to drift off topic here. 🤷‍♀️

Well I made 2 pence on yesterday's saving session. It really is not worth sitting in the dark for now.

EDF ran a trial with PowerVault a few years back which I took part in. When the grid is stressed the frequency reduces momentarily and the battery system detects this and starts exporting to the grid. Conversely, when there is a sudden and unexpected surplus there is increase in frequency and the battery starts charging. It all worked well technically AFAIK and the benefit to me was an annual payment of £120. The scheme fizzled out though - I'm not entirely sure why but I think it was because there wasn't enough collective battery capacity at the time to make it commercially viable. (If you're interested in the technology behind this it is (was?) called Fast Frequency Response).
