I found that even in the documents section Barclays aren't super quick to add the switch letters. They were added a few days into it, though I don't think the list was ever added, just the confirmation that the switch had been started and then accepted.

Funnily enough the list containing whats being transferred over actually arrived quicker via post than the letter confirming the switch in the first place.

I found the whole experience of Barclays comms relating to the switch to be bizarre. Far more paper mail than was necessary and sometimes that arrived a week or more before it appeared in electronic form in the app. And, yes, some of the paper comms never showed up in the app at all. It's like they have two completely different systems.

Darn - Just had a letter from Barclays that my partner's switch from Nationwide is going ahead on 27th Nov.  But only one problem - Looks like it's showing the Nationwide account being switched out of has an incorrect name - albeit my name instead of my partner's name.  Tried to call Barclays, but their line is very busy.  What shall we do now? Have we messed up the switch and can we still rectify it?
Please note that during my (successful!) switch from Nationwide to Barclays received zero communication from NW

So that still leaves us with the question of how will we know the switch has failed and when or what particular date do we attempt to try doing the switch again?

You will know when you don't get £175

If you followed the process and the terms and conditions to the letter you should be successful

If you did't then try again

You will know the switch failed if you still have the Nationwide account on Monday evening and no balance gets transferred to Barclays on that day. You should probably see the DDs on your Barclays account tomorrow if there were any on the Nationwide account.

If a switch completed but DDs were possibly not set up in time,  would Barclays notify the account holder that the incentive would not be paid ?    A friend of mine has not been paid the incentive although I have and we both completed the switch on the same day , 15th Nov.   Does anybody know ?
Your friend should refer to the switching letter issued by Barclays outlining the DDs to be switched. If there aren't two, then the incentive won't be paid. They may not notify those not qualifying, as nobody had to confirm whether or not they were switching as part of the offer.

The switch will quickly fail if the account names do not match, so you should be able to reapply with the correct details.
Thanks very much masonic.  The barclays letter was received today and it states the switch will take place tomorrow between 6pm and 7:30pm.  How will I know that the switch has failed? Will I get an email from Barclays/Nationwide? Or do I just go ahead and apply for a switch on the 25th which falls on Saturday.  As you can appreciate, I can't wait for Barclays to inform me as they are ridiculously slow and only send out snailmail which would certainly not be received until after 30th Nov.
Presumably Barclays postal comms is about 5 working days behind. Have you received a list of payments that are supposed to be switched yet? I believe some have reported that this was provided in the documents section of the app at around day 2. I would have thought Nationwide would have contacted you by now if you are already on day 6. If there is a switch happening, you should be able to see the DDs on the account by tomorrow morning. But it seems unlikely both Barclays and Nationwide wouldn't notice the account being switched doesn't belong to the switcher.
When I started my switch, I had a notification from Ulster on day 1. It's the fastest I've ever known them do anything. I was expecting them to send the 'sorry you're leaving us' letter by carrier pigeon sometime in 2024.
My apologies masonic, but I didn't realise that you had replied to my post.  Yes we received the barclays list of payments letter.  Upon your suggestion, we've also just checked and we can see via the barclays app all the DD's for my partner's nationwide account are already showing on there, so does that mean the has switch happened or are you saying that it the DD's appear one day before the actual switch?

Those who already have Barclays account. What happen if you close your account and open a new one soon thereafter. Has anyone managed to get incentive on this way ??

What will happen is that you won't get the incentive.

     If the terms say
You will not be eligible for this offer if:
    • You have any open Barclays Current Account on 31st October 2023. This includes but is not exclusive to a Barclays Bank Account, Student/Graduate Account, Platinum Bank Account, Mortgage Current Account, or a Premier Current Account.
and you do have an account that was open on 31st October then there's clearly no point in closing that account and starting again.

If it's an account you don't care about and you have the time I'd say give it a go. The incentive rules say you won't qualify but Lloyds, NatWest, RBS, Ulster and First Direct all paid me an incentive even though the rules said they wouldn't. Halifax, HSBC, TSB and others did apply the rules correctly. So it depends how robust their checks are.
