Those who already have Barclays account. What happen if you close your account and open a new one soon thereafter. Has anyone managed to get incentive on this way ??

If it's an account you don't care about and you have the time I'd say give it a go. The incentive rules say you won't qualify but Lloyds, NatWest, RBS, Ulster and First Direct all paid me an incentive even though the rules said they wouldn't. Halifax, HSBC, TSB and others did apply the rules correctly. So it depends how robust their checks are.
Some people can not see the main point why other peoples are asking this sort of question on MSE. I had been lucky sofar with the previous switching deal until, the last one I lost my burner account to first direct. So now become more careful in taking the risk.

Guys I've got an update on our switch situation.  The switch has happened and my partner can now see the money that was in the nationwide account in the Barclays account, so it looks like it's been successful, even with the wrong name!

Does that mean we should still get the switch incentive?
If the DDs are there and you've joined the Blue Rewards thing then, yes, I guess they'll pay the bonus. It's a bit weird though. If they don't pay the bonus you have very strong grounds for a complaint. If they do pay the bonus you probably still have grounds for complaint regarding the wrong name thing but maybe you won't want to complain.

Anyway, I'm off to see if I can switch my neighbours account to mine. Different name, same post code...   :D:D:D

  • Take it soon as you get the £175 you can drop blue rewards

Thanks boingy, you made me laugh with your plans to switch your neighbour's account to yours, but it's clear that Barclays system is mediocre and cumbersome, otherwise this would never have happened.  We really can't be asked to make a complaint, unless of course  we don't receive the incentive.

Since it's now switched and one the DDs was Paypal, do we need to add more money from Paypal...just asking because I read somewhere on this thread something along the lines of Paypal not being the same as other DDs and money needs to be added manually.

    I did.
  • Got nationwide incentive now want to try this. But when I open the Barclay app it only allows you to Register for the app. Tried this on both android and iphone. Anyone else seeing the same!?

Also just to be sure, a new account needs to be opened via the app?

Can anyone tell me please, when switching a joint account to Barclays, do you need both debit card numbers (donor account) when registering for the switch?

I think one of ours has got lost in the post so I think we're going to be out of time if we need two.

I think joint accounts are ineligible for the switch offer?

    • You did not use the Barclays App to open your Current Account and initiate your Current Account Switch
    • Your account is a joint account
    • You did not complete a Full Current Account Switch from another provider within 30 days of requesting it
    • You requested to switch in an account before this offer was made available or after it closed
    • You requested to switch in an existing account from Barclays
