  • I can initiate the switch today forvthex1st December but do I also have to join blue rewards before then? I'll ask today, it seems like you have to forfeit the first £5 unless you are fortunate enough to have to direct debits late in the month.
Oh sorry, yes you'd also need to sign up for Blue Rewards before the offer closes. Still plenty of time to set up new DDs on your Barclays account to pull before the end of the month (but they would obviously have to be different to the ones you are switching). Something like the ones @pecunianonolet mention above are quick to set up and can pull multiple times each month.

Seems like a lot of glitches for those applying through android like how I plan to do this. As the offer is open till the end of the month, I think i'll wait a week or so before applying, hopefully by then they will have sorted everything out.
  • I've applied for the account and using my RBS account to switch, I like the RBS account but it was the easiest one to let go.

I seen a comment yesterday that Barclays use a card reader for transactions, is that the case? Is it something like Nationwide - if it is then I might cancel the switch over.

My understanding is that to authorise transactions you need to use PIN sentry - this can either take the form of a physical card reader, or you can use the mobile version which is built into the app.

Hi, we were interested in opening this account, for us the App doesn't work. Have downloaded, removed and reloaded it a few times.  There is no "new to Barclays" option and instead it keeps asking us to "register for the app", but the only way to do that is to give an existing account number, which we don't have as that's the whole purpose of using the App, to open a new account.

I saw some people on the first few pages of this thread were having a similar issue but it was supposed to have been fixed.

Is anyone else experiencing the same?  Using an android device.  Any tips on how to fix?  Many thx.
Are you sure it is not the Barclaycard app you are trying, which does only have a register option (I just had to reinstall it to get my Barclaycard credit card app working). The app to use is just called "Barclays'. If it is the right app, maybe try during the daytime, I couldn't continue an application overnight, so maybe it is disabled then, overnight maintenance etc.
Hi wishful_thinker - yes you were correct, it seems they disable the "I am a new customer" option overnight.  It was working for me this morning - it was the correct Barclays App. Not sure why they switch off that functionality at certain times, but it's gone through, so thanks.
  • I have 2 direct debits on my "burner" account which I want to use to switch to Barclays. They both come out on the 1st of each month. Does this mean that I will be charged £5 for having the Barclays account this month as I won't meet the criteria required in November?
Any other issues you guys can see that may arise by my direct debits not coming out until 1st December?
    Thanks!

You get charged the month after you join.

The £5 monthly fee is always taken each month. Separately, you can then qualify for the monthly rewards which will then credit into your rewards wallet. You need to manually transfer this back into your current account, but the net result is that it offsets the monthly fee.

For the DD reward, you need the DD payments to be taken from your account each month. This could be 1 DD mandate pulling multiple times, or multiple mandates pulling once each. Unless you can amend the payment dates or set up new DDs so that you have 2 payments taken in Nov, then you won't qualify for the £5 DD reward this month.

Deposited £800 in this morning to meet that criteria. Went to send it back to another account of mine but was hit with an error RPS01 message. Said If payment hasn’t gone through after 4 hours try again.
Did you manage to make a payment? I tried twuce yesterday, and once again this mornimg (the balance from my donor account us in there so switch has gone through) each time presented with RPS01 and no payment. I'm loathe to transfer £800 in if I can't get it back out.

Anyone had their debit card PIN yet

As my cards disappeared from the app (which has a view PIN option), I thought I'd try via Online Banking which also has that option... and got another error! I don't actually need the PIN for anything, so will wait for it to drop on the doormat.
