jimmydangerous said:Thanks for all the useful comments above, I got a mortgage with Barclays 2 years ago through a broker and have been waiting for a switch offer as I can't access the mortgage account/details through the app unless I have a current account (bonkers!).
My questions are -
a) Do I need two direct debits active from my switching account or can I start them after opening?
b) Based on the 'You will not be eligible for this offer' T&C of having a Mortgage Current Account - do you think I will qualify to get the bonus? *the mortgage is a joint account0 -
So you can close or transfer the a/c after you've got the £175 and there's no comeback, just a quick smash and grab?0

installed the app...
applied for the standard account...
... answered all the question truthfully (as i must)
all very smooth, ID etc. accepted right through to the last stage when unfortunately I'm told "congratulations, based on your salary you've been accepted for the premier account", and that "to apply for the standard account - I will have to redo the application in branch".
Not interested in that (the premier account require a lot more cash flowing through the app)
on the flip side i guess i don't really "need" the money - although it would have been nice for a few minutes work.
Au-revoir Barclays. At least i don't seem to have messed up my Barclaycard app.0 -
Okay, I've taken on board what you said @boingy .....
For the partner, all is good and both Moneybox and Plum are now setup and DDs are expected to come out next week. For myself, Moneybox is also good, but Plum has turned out to be a pain in the neck and they've not responded to the issue of linking. So rather than waste time and just as an extra backup, I've linked my nationwide-sole account to Paypal and added £1.00 to the Paypal balance as a DD - Hopefully this will come out within 5-7 working days. I assume this method of adding money via Paypal is acceptable for the Barclays DD criteria?
The next thing:
For both me and my partner - Barclays account has successfully opened. I had the dreaded Blue Rewards UD001 error, but I've found a SOLUTION:-- Go to the Barclays app, Go into Your Rewards and try to join Blue
- At this point you'll get the usual UD001 error. Do not press the OK button on the error message!
- Instead, press your phone's back button
- You should then be able to scroll down, accept the terms and conditions, and join Blue Rewards.

I've successfully completed several switches since last December without encountering a single issue - until now.
I applied for a new current account through the Barclays app at the weekend, and all was going smoothly until they were unable to verify my ID electronically. I managed to get a cancellation at the local branch and took my supporting documents in today.
An hour or more later and it appears I now have a shiny new account, set up through the app with the assistance of a helpful and efficient member of staff. She had to consult with a colleague several times and set up a new profile for me. Apparently the issue was that the address details in my ID, although substantially identical, vary slightly from what they already had in their records for me from when I took out my Barclaycard - namely I no longer include the local area or county, just the post town and postcode.
So the new current account can now be funded, I can apply for the Blue Rewards and proceed with the switch. She said she has worked for Barclays a long time and this is the first switcher offer they have ever made and so they are feeling their way to an extent (although I believe it has been stated earlier in this thread that Barclays have previously offered switch incentives).
I'll have to go in again at some point to get the Barclaycard app up and running with the new profile, but that can wait until after the switch has been completed.
Regarding the various error messages that have been appearing, I was told these are known 'exceptions' that their tech people are working hard to resolve.

It's easy money but I'm aiming for a mortgage by May/June next year and don't want to jeopardise it.If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

I have only had 1 bank account and 1 credit card. My Santander account is the only one I have used for the last 10 years, being a pensioner they know about my state pension being the only money going through the account
i started opening accounts for my first switch FD. Metro Starling, Monzo, I went on from there switch after switch
Lloyds Halifax Co-op TSB Bank of Scotland NatWest Ulster RBS Nationwide and now Barclays, have done several refer a friend to Co-op
i have moved funds about umpteen times and never had a problem
Now I have 10 accounts with a standing order doing the rounds to keep them active for the Yougov bribe of which I have made £200 since May
Like you say easy money so why not ?1
