Deposited £800 in this morning to meet that criteria. Went to send it back to another account of mine but was hit with an error RPS01 message. Said If payment hasn’t gone through after 4 hours try again.
  • I'm confused. It says you have to open the account via the Barclays app but the app wants me to register and insists on an account number, which obviously I haven't got until I apply via the app?

There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza dear Liza.
There should be 2 buttons on the initial screen. One to say, I am already a customer or something similar and one saying I am new to Barclays. If the latter isn't there, uninstall the app, switch off your phone, wait a minute and switch back on and download again. Others mentioned this in the earlier pages of this thread that the app is behaving strangely. Android and Apple apps seem to make a difference too. Hope it works.
I was going to follow your advice but when I looked at the app this morning the extra button had appeared.
  • Thanks for all the useful comments above, I got a mortgage with Barclays 2 years ago through a broker and have been waiting for a switch offer as I can't access the mortgage account/details through the app unless I have a current account (bonkers!).
    My questions are -

    a) Do I need two direct debits active from my switching account or can I start them after opening?

    b) Based on the 'You will not be eligible for this offer' T&C of having a Mortgage Current Account - do you think I will qualify to get the bonus? *the mortgage is a joint account
  • Okay, update for all. I tried to register on the app but it said it couldn't verify me and that I would have to make an appointment at the branch. I spoke to a lady and the first appointment they had was on 27th November. I asked why I couldn't be verified as I had an account with Barclays earlier this year. She said she knew, my details were still being held as they are for 13 months in case of any "stray payment or direct debits." This is why the app wouldn't register for me as I still "technically" have an account with them. I asked if that meant I couldn't get the offer and she said according to the conditions i could as I didn't have an account open with them on 1st November. Anyway I kicked up a stink, asked to speak to someone higher up the chain and they have now suddenly found me an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you know the outcome but i would imagine many of you are going to be in the same situation.

I had this, when I made the payment attempt in the morning it gave this, I tried a couple of hours later and I got a call almost immediately from a security team, they knew the amount I was moving but then asked me to confirm DOB which I refused (because obviously, call from unknown number asking that). I called them from the app, could hear fine, pressed multiple options but got through to someone who seemed to not be able to hear me and my account access then got frozen. I called back (on the normal number, not in app) and spoke to a wonderful helpdesk person for about 17 minutes who went through all security checks, confirming I wasn't being scammed etc and they unlocked the account then approved the payment I made and it has cleared back to my main account.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks for your experience on this. I have just got my way around this problem by entering the payee details manually as opposed to what they had set up from my switch account. All works fine now.
  • The Blue Rewards cashback offer looks a bit naff for most people as there is only a very limited list of retailers which pay cashback. It's good, however, for the limited time 5% offer, from which you can make a tenner a month in November and December if you can spend £200 with your debit card on genuine purchases. So another max £20 possible.
How can one see the list of retailers please? I can’t find the link 🙄
The companies on it are really the deal breaker for me as otherwise the slog of the hoop-jumping just isn’t worth it.

    a) Yes - you need to switch 2x DDs as a part of the switch. You cannot set them up afterwards
    b) Unsure, but I suspect it probably would disqualify you

Once you have signed up for the Cashback Rewards (in addition to Blue Rewards), you can see the current list of retailers. I am afraid I can’t link to the list but it currently includes for example Deliveroo, Jo Malone, Clarins, Dominos, Toolstation, Decathlon. None of the approx 30 on the current list are of interest to me but Barclays are still running a 5% cashback offer under which you can get up to £10 back per month. This offer now only runs  for November and December - so you can earn up to another £20 if you get your skates on.

Ah ha the the £800 is to qualify for the blue rewards not part of the £175 incentive conditions
So no need to sign up for Blue Rewards?

You need to sign up for blue rewards to get the bonus for switching.

Blue rewards charges £5 a month, this is refunded to you if you pay in £800 and have 2 DD taken each month, so you can join, get the £175, pay the £5 and then cancel blue rewards (so net £170 profit) or pay in/out the £800 and get the extra £5 back. As rewards is taken on the second working day of the month, it'll be difficult to get the switch bonus without paying that £5 but it's easy to get it credited back. Hope that helps
