Barclays £175 switch offer - new customers only, Nov 1 - 30 2023

Our post just arrived, I have a 'sorry to see you go' letter from TSB, and my new Barclays debit card. I noticed on Saturday that my payees list from the donor account were already available in the app.
The TSB letter said I had to close any savings pots before the account was closed, I've never used a TSB savings pot, but there was one they must have created when I opened the account in Feb - now closed.0 -
Does your documents mention anything about the switch? Mine is just welcoming me to my new account. I opened and initiated the switch on the 3rd and was giving a completion date of 13th. Haven't received anything about it though via email/documents/textpecunianonolet said:
When did you initiate the switch? I opened the account on the 1st when it was launched and directly initiated the switch after and been told completion day is the 10th. In the Documents section in the app I find the letter with my details and it is all dated 3rd. My DD at the donor account are due today. Guess I am a 5er out on the £175 incentive.miller said:No correspondence received, but the donor account payees have been setup. It does seem like the Blue Rewards fee for 2nd December might not be "waivable" if your DDs fire early in the month and don't have any more. However, if you cancel within 14 days and have not received any benefits Barclays will refund it; trouble is joining Blue Rewards is needed to trigger the 28 working days period for the bonus, so may not be worth delaying joining just to potentially save a fiver.0 -
Just checked my documents in the Barclays app, I have a full switch confirmation letter in there, dated 3 Nov.0

Hmmmmm.... so you started yours on the 1st and got the letters on the 3rd. I started mine on the 3rd (a Friday) so maybe I will get the switch letter tomorrow.northwalesd said:Just checked my documents in the Barclays app, I have a full switch confirmation letter in there, dated 3 Nov.0 -

No contact at all regarding the switch just the Welcome Letter, T&Cs and one more generic pdf I've forgotten the name of.I'm in to online banking though, they reused my membership number from an old eSaver I closed back in 2018. IMO if you close your last account with a bank, then open up a new one several years later they should not be recycling data from back then; the details on the new application should be used.0 -
I've accepted that I'll be a fiver out, I can't be bothered to set up 2 more direct debits just for the remainder of this month (they have or already will have fired at the donor account). 20th December should be the absolute latest the 175 bonus is paid for me (28 working days after 10th November), so I'll turn off Blue Rewards then and dodge January's £5 fee.

I've still had no joy via the app, and I've deleted my app and reinstalled it too. I still get this error message: "Sorry, we can't open your account right now. Please try again later. If this error continues, please get in touch with us".tel_ said:I have a Barclays credit card so use the app. I tried to apply for their Bank Account last night, but noticed Current Accounts wasn't showing up after tapping Products. It was however, showing this morning.
I've tried to apply just now, but it says we cannot open an account for you currently. Try later or contact us - words to that effect anyway.
Will try tomorrow.
After using the chat feature via the app, the person at the other end stated, and I quote "The £175 is only applicable to account switch from another bank to Barclays. It's not applicable for new account opening". Say no more.
Looking at the website though, it kind of contradicts itself. Step 1 does give you the option to open the account via the website, but Step 2 actually states the switch needs to be actioned in the app. Maybe the account opening can be done via the website, and then switch via the app to still qualify for the £175?

What happens if you close the account soon after receiving the bonus?0

Andy from BeCleverWithYourCash states you must not have had a current account ever with Barclays to be eligible for this offer. Brand new customers for the first time only. He claims to have had this confirmed to him.
