Well done that woman!
3-5 days isn't long for packing ones stuff and moving it and oneself elsewhere though so don't be disappointed if that doesn't materialise as he doesn't sound the most reliable. Definitely don't make it dependent on you paying him, if anything he's saving having to pay you an extra week and a half's rent2 -
Good on you!Debt Free - 4th June 20252

Well done!
It isn't "fair" or "right" that he has had a roof over his head, food in his belly & lifts to work for less than £300 a month (when he paid). Life isn't fair & he needs to suck it up, get packed and shift out!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Congrats on holding firm and turning down his ridiculous request! How much can you muster as a nuisance payment to get him out without wrecking your emergency fund?2

I know that no good comes from name calling, but what a total @%*&^ _%^$"%& of a man.
With a view to offering more helpful words:
You are an absolute goddess of a woman; brave, powerful, and strong. I have the deepest admiration for a person who has such caring and compassion that you have remained positive, dignified and kind to this man despite how he has hurt and betrayed you.
You are my absolute hero and a real inspiration.
On the money front, I started reading your diary as the first part about being here before resonated with me. I have just returned today for the first time in many months, and whilst I don't like seeing that people are struggling with recurring money issues, I do take some comfort in knowing I'm not alone in this today, and your diary, so far has helped me to think about how to get myself back on the wagon, so thank you for sharing your money journey.
As far as the rest of the story goes, you obviously have the support of some wonderful friends and family, and I just know when this @%*&^ _%^$"%& has taken his leave, you will thrive and find happiness without him.
In terms of the his demand of money, I agree with the other posts of hitting him with a counter claim. If he's paid an average of XYZ over 16 years, the £30,000 he claims is the value of the work his has done in the house, that wouldn't even come close to covering what a normal person should have been contributing to the household during that time, surely? Even if you tot up a fiver every day for his lifts to work as a contribution to wear and tear on the vehicle, fuel etc, that's over £1000 per year.
Best wishes for the days ahead. I hope all goes without too much conflict.
(And if you wanted to run his toothbrush around the rim of the toilet before he leaves, I think that's fair game).

Again thank you all! I did respond a couple of times yesterday via text - it isn't "fair or right" what he's paid me, and also when he said about leaving with nothing my retort was that even if we just focus on the last 6 months, he's paid half what a lodger would (and they would have have to pay for food and petrol) and therefore it wasn't nothing!
Thankfully he wasn't there when I got home last night and only returned for about 1 minute this morning to drop our dog off - of course, I was anxiously waiting for round 2.
He has also said that he's not leaving without any money - so we'll see how nasty things get but the locks are being changed on 1 December regardless.

Life drama update done - now onto today's bits and bobs...
- See if I can get my bosses to witness my will today
- Email to cancel a subscription - I have a yarn subscription and have been making a blanket with it, however the payment for next month has just come out and I only intended to continue for one year. Whilst I've enjoyed getting a surprise every month, this will be the end of the project and I can't justify the expense any more. That will save me £15 per month
- Diarise to speak to the council on 1 December to inform them that the house will be single occupancy
- Making good progress on the next crochet present - will continue working on it at lunch
- Hopefully manage to drop a present in on my way home
