I'm so sorry, @ladybird1106. Such a hard time, with your own exhaustion as well, though you can take comfort from the fact you were able to be near him and he's not suffering.

House clearing is a very big job but now you have the most valuable things out of the way, do try to have a little time for yourselves. Is there someone who could house sit or perhaps just put lights on a timer and have someone move things round occasionally till the job is complete. My parents' house was empty literally for years but was never broken into: people helped by putting a car in the drive or changing things around.

  • Sorry to read about your Dad @ladybird1106 You know the area better than we do, but I will say that my Nan's house sat empty for months before someone attempted to see if it was empty. In that case they forced the garage door up slightly, we think to peer in with a torch and see if there was anything worth nicking.

The neighbours spotted it in the morning and contacted my Dad (we lived 3 hours away) to let him know. The front garden was rather untidy (hard to organise a gardener from that distance) and we think that, combined with a lack of bins and no car on the driveway, became noticed. If you can keep it looking "lived in" from the outside for a bit then that will put off anyone wanting an easy job.

  • Thanks everyone for your words of comfort and support, it means a lot.
Things have been difficult here , I have wrote several posts but deleted them as they have just been too painful to post. I am trying to be the better person but my relationship with someone who I’m very close to will never be the same. OH is fuming and I have had to have stern words with him to leave it for now. I just need to get through the next couple of months and then will decide whether to walk away.
Funeral is booked. House is slowly being emptied. Key had to be taken off an extended family member who thought it was ok to go in the house without asking, caught on camera.
We have decided to make a will , temp one has been made. The eldest and my best friend ( works for a law firm and are the kids surrogate auntie)been given instructions on what needs to happen.
Trying to keep my mental health intact.

  • Another day of hauling myself through. Phoned a very dear friend this morning to offload onto, which I’m very grateful for. It made the day ahead easier to handle. Took the youngest to the gym and then went onto celebrate them passing their level one maths. They had a bit of an incident with either a druggie or alcoholic the other day and it’s totally freaked them out. We’ve had to talk through with them going a different way to avoid a notorious pub. Talked about it not stopping them being independent. We’ve bought them a locket with my phone number engraved in it in case their phone is pinched. They also have a personal alarm now.
The rest of the day has been spent batch cooking. Hopefully won’t have to cook for the next couple of nights.
