Thanks @antuk and @pecunianonolet.  Apologies, but both of your experiences and advice are the opposite, so forgive me if I'm a little apprehensive.  As you can see from the screenshots, when logging into Virgin Money on my PC, the DDs shows status unavailable, but when I login to the Virgin Money app on my phone, the DDs show as "Due" and "Active", so unsure why that is the case.

They are set up and showing and that is important. You could also call Virgin and ask them to confirm but I would go ahead. The offer is live for some time now so could be pulled anytime.
Thanks pecunianonolet.  We've taken the plunge and applied for a joint NW account.  It's not gone through immediately and it's gone to final checks instead, so we'll be notified if all is okay.  The earliest date for switching we got was 2nd Nov, so we've chosen that.  Let's hope they now open it, otherwise all this work and hard checks will be futile.  I'll try and keep you posted.
  • I’ve moved two direct debits to a current account I have with the Natwest that I just use for discretionary spending. One DD has moved & collected a payment & for the other the DD will collect on 1st November. I have had a letter confirming the DD will collect from the new account number.

Can I start my switch to Nationwide now or should I wait until that first DD has collected with Natwest first, then switch? I don’t want to switch & not qualify for the £200 due to a technicality!

You can, but if anything goes wrong with that DD mandate then your goose is cooked.

I'd wait for a payment personally.

Anybody experienced delays on this? I switched my Metro sole account - meant to complete on 18th and the balance and DDs were transferred by then, and old Metro account closed, but I've had no confirmation from Nationwide of the switch completing on the 18th nor bonus credited.

In contrast, I switched a joint account and received confirmation and the £200 bonus on the correct day.

What I was thinking too. Hopefully the offer continues until after the 1st November.

Well that was quick - NW have emailed to say our joint account is now open and the switch should take place on 3rd Nov.  Hopefully by then Paypal will have taken their money out as a DD from our old Virgin Money account.  Thanks for all your help guys.  :)

One thing you could do is set up the switch now but set the switch date for a date in the future (so long as it's within 60 days so make sure it completes no later than 21/12/23). This way if you have any issues with your DDs you'll have enough time to set up new ones before the switch starts and if the offer gets pulled very soon you can still benefit from the offer.

Sorry to jump in on the conversation, but I've just noticed that although our Paypal DD is setup on Virgin Money and shows as Active, when we added £1.00 to our Paypal balance, the original date that Paypal were going to take out the money was 26/10/23.  But for some reason, this has now moved forward to 31/10/23.

I'm concerned that since our Nationwide joint account has opened today, we ended up choosing  the switch date as 03/11/2, which is very close to the date that Paypal are taking out money.  I don't understand why Paypal moved the date forward in the first place.  Should I be worried?

Thought I'd chance it with this offer and see if I could manage to slip through the cracks and snag an incentive knowing I'm ineligible for the offer. Seems Nationwide is on the ball here as my switch completed yesterday and I got a message this morning telling me that I won't be receiving the incentive :(
i posted a bit back that i did the same and didn't get incentive. they didn't even tell me i wasn't - how harsh is that? :p

Was the ineligibility due to having benefited already since 18 AUG 2021? I am ineligible for that reason but was thinking of trying anyway incase Nationwide don’t check it properly.
