There was a story on tv this morning saying a school in a deprived area had improved their A level results.  I had to laugh and thought to myself they are so deprived they are taking A levels! 😃
Its now a requirement for those between 16-18 to be in some form of education if not employment. The unintended consequence is that some may feel pushed into A-levels when there are more suitable training options out there.

The days of churning out 16 year olds to the dole queue are over.
So it's a way of keeping the dole numbers down.
Not a bad thing if those 2 years are used as intended, ie to actually accrue new skills to make them employable rather than creating families before they establish themselves. The University of Life awaits.

  • Is anyone else trying to get things done before their 60th? If so what, and how are you getting on?  I am determined to declutter my house by the time I'm 60 but I have to admit that progress is a bit slow. I'm trying to stay motivated to keep doing a little bit though or else I can see spending the last month of my 50s doing tip and charity runs!
  • I have planned a few things I want to do this year.  Saving plenty of money at the moment, as I am not going anywhere, nearly week six of my hip replacement op - not a present I had on my birthday wish list - but a much needed one.
Adopted two donkeys which are local to me - plan to visit them
Going to two gigs to see my favourite band - not seen for many years
Started writing to pen pals again
Hopefully gather family together for  a meal on my birthday at a restaurant.

Which band you going to see?
  • Oh dear @weenancyinAmerica I will probably be in the same position as you, I've been resolving to do this as long as I remember!  @I_Love_comps that a very positive and fun list! I did a 50 things to do before I was 50 list and had an amazing year but I don't think I've got the energy to try and think of 60 things let alone the time to do them! I'm going to try to get my life in order before I'm 60 then make a year of it I think.

  • @MACKEM99   I am going to see Showaddywaddy.   Followed them for years. Not been to a gig for 10 years though.

They are all over the place! Let me know how you find the gig? The closest to me is Basildon next winter, else Chelmsford next month.

More a fan of nostaligia! I like to see performers I haven't already seen at the tail end of their careers to make sure I don't miss out - Frankie Valli and Tony Bennet being 2 examples.
