  • Thanks Maman. She is really upset and just starting a night shift after hardly any sleep with all this going on.

I will try it with the yoghurt and fruit. It always feels as if I just need some carbs in it.
But I was really looking forward to eating sugar puffs. Even not very sweet sugar puffs!

  • @NornIronRose, draw a line, you cant change whats happened , just what happened from this moment forward

I hear you on the carbs, I craved them so much when I first started, and for about 3 months. Id gotten used to the big carb hug and thats really difficult to let go. I used to WI on a Wednesday at 7 pm and leave just after 8 and stop at the petrol station to buy my crisps - family bag, they didn't do singles, and a pack of baps, make two huge crisp baps, butter, cheese, salami , everything I could think off, down it went. I think I did that for about 4/5 weeks before I stopped. Not an informed decision , Ive just thought about it now and realised it was actually quite short lived - in my journey that is.

Now if the carb craving hits, its a big plate of slimming world chips - ie, hand cut, a wee squirt of oil and air fried, use my cheese HEA and its good enough. Satisfies the need of a carb hug craving and doesn't do any damage  ( the drier the chip, the less you eat naturally )

Or pasta. Now pre SW and in my first few weeks, I could easily eat 500gr of dried weight pasta. Pre SW and it was just a glug of olive oil, black pepper and parmesan .Or a big spoon of pesto. So then I changed to wholewheat pasta, seriously thats hard to eat as much, then Ive swapped out for a tomato based sauce - even just some manky tomatoes from the back of the fridge , and portion sizes are a lot smaller, but I get my carb blanket

The carb craving does ease, promise you. Today I got caught up, hit the shops at 1pm when they opened and was thinking Id get an Italian style roll and fill it with this that and the other ( I was going to make bacon rolls for those two ) and as I counted the rolls into my bag, I thought hold on, a bacon bap is not going to touch the sides Im that hungry and Im going to go off plan, so I did cook bacon and egg rolls for them, I took the scrambled egg mess with all the added veg, on my HEB ,and it was OK. I filled myself without endangering myself

Im not an expert, I get it wrong ( lots) , there are much longer members with much more experience. Im just piping up because Ive not been on this journey that long and my struggles are still hitting me in the face and I can really identify with you

BTW has your daughter rung where she stayed in Scotland or the airline?
  • Thanks guys. Passport saga drags on. Lost property in Luton Airport shows a found passport in the loo at the time when she would have been there. But when she rang they said there was nothing with her name on the system. So another dead end. She has now cancelled it just in case it has fallen into the wrong hands.
A colleague on her night shift has told her that her friend got to the embassy and got an emergency one in 2 hours as she was flying that day. They are going to let her away a wee bit early so she can whizz home, pick up her docs and get there. If it's meant to be, it will be. Flight is at 3pm from Stansted which is not the easiest to get to.

As for the carb craving, the puffed wheat was amaaaaazing! Didn't end up with dinner as I'm still working. But had a bowl with berries and yoghurt with some flava drops to sweeten it, then a whole 20g of puffed wheat on top which was exactly what I was needing. That will be my breakfast for a while. Glad the box was only 60p after all as there are only 5 portions in it!

Well done Longwalker on resisting temptation. If you'd seen me the other night in the corner shop when I spotted smokey bacon Tayto and was salivating at the thought of a crisp sandwich! I can also find Tayto in Sainsbury's but have resisted!

@NornIronRose - @Longwalker is so right - the carb cravings do ease.  I still need to eat carbs even after more than 13 years of SW but portion sizes are now "normal", in fact usually less than the recommended amount of things like rice and pasta but roasties and chips I probably still have quite big portions but of course they aren't cooked in deep fat like they used to be, they are either cooked in the halogen oven or the fan oven depending on what I'm cooking to have with them.

It's definitely worth your DD getting her passport in person - my DH and I had to do the same things in November last year but that was because although our passports were in date  by more than 6 months they had been issued more than 10 years earlier and as no longer in the EU they have to be issued within 10 years.  It was definitely much more expensive for us as we were already at the airport and then had to go and sort it out!  What with the extra cost of the passport, the cost of the train to and from the passport office and needing to find new flights a couple of days later (we couldn't wait for the next tour operator flight as we were meeting my sister at the hotel and I hadn't seen her for more than a year) it ended up costing us over £1,000.  At leas if your DD manages to get still catch the same flight she won't have that problem and hopefully she gets to the passport office quickly and able to get her passport and to the airport on time.  Good luck to her.

Decided to change the bedding from the motorhome bed as still has the cold cotton sheets on there!  If we go away in winter we like to have the flanelette ones as they are warmer on the cold winter nights!  Will hang them out shortly as it's forecast to be dry again today.

    Today's plan:

    B - porridge, fruit - HEB; S; F
    L - spicy carrot and lentil soup - P; S; F
    D - LO pork, chips, baked beans, pickles - P; S; F

    HEA - milk
    HEB - porridge oats
    Syns - none planned

    Have a good day.

  • Thanks for the words of encouragement ladies.
She changed her plan again and was leaving night shift to go on her break at 5.30 as soon as the tube was open,  dash across London to get her documents, back to work, then post office at 9 for a form. Back to work to get photo endorsed, then to the embassy! Here's hoping. But at least she won't be able to say she didn't try.
I'm glad you did get to see your sister in the end joedenise. I miss my big sister but at least we whatsapp most days and have a good chinwag once a week.

Really looking forward to breakfast today. Have to go in to work (on my annual leave!) to hand over and then car back to the garage to get fixed. Usually I would have breakfast after that but my tum is already rumbling as I didn't eat much at all yesterday. Won't get back from the garage till maybe 12 so should eat this morning.
Have a good day everyone. Let's hope I exchange on my house sale today too cos this is stressful!!!!

Morning all, sorry AWOL again! WFH today but this is the first I've had a chance to have a read.

Really busy weekend. I put one pound on at WI and was so fed up with myself that I did all the things I've been putting off for a while - front door and livingroom measured for new curtains and poles, new rugs and runners ordered, DS1's bedroom cleared and cleaned now he's moved into his new place and my desk and work stuff moved back in and a load of batch cooking done (lentil, pea and ham and tomato and red pepper soups, meatballs 😍 and spaghetti bolognaise.  Best of all I stayed on plan - and no alcohol syns were consumed 😁

Hope your daughter gets her passport OK @NornIronRose

Take it easy @beanielous be kind to yourself after your fall

Belated happy birthday @bubbs 🥳 I also like a Percy now and again!

Sorry, if I've missed anyone, hopefully catch up tonight.

    Today's food:
B - bran flakes (HEB), yoghurt (0.5), raspberries
L - speedy tomato soup, veggie omelette, pickles
D - fish and chips, carrots, peas, sweetcorn (4 syns for breadcrumbs, tartare sauce syns will need to check)

    Have a fabulous day all.
  • Okay. She didn't manage to get anywhere with getting a passport. Really distraught bless her. I just told her to go home and sleep and plan for a trip in the future. Broke my heart when she was bawling her eyes out down the phone. She's 24 but still my baby. Still hurts when your kids hurt.

On a positive note, car has passed its MOT! Only £75 to fix which could have been an awful lot worse.
Will walk back to get it. It's a good hour's walk so that can be my exercise for today.
And hopefully, hopefully exchanging on the house today.  Got the official phonecall from the solicitor asking for permission to exchange so now I'm on tenterhooks!
