@bubbs - DH had a stent put in as he had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurism (AAA) which had grown over the years to becoming a large Aneurism - if it burst he would almost certainly died so it had to be done before it grew to that stage. We got home around 7am but DH didn't manage to stay up beyond 8.30 as he's had even less sleep than I have over the 2 nights he's been in!
Can I make a plea for any of you who have DHs who reach the age of 65 to make sure they go for an AAA scan when they are invited. It is the scan which picked up DHs AAA when he turned 65 and it has grown every year until this year they decided it was big enough to be operated on. Hopefully that should be it but he'll still have to have regular scans to make sure the stent stays in place.
If they have a Normal scan at age 65 then they won't need to have any more. If it has started growing (as DHs had) then it will be annual scans to keep an eye on it.

You're not the only one who's glad it's all done! He didn't have a general just a spinal block so was awake and watching the op on a screen! He enjoys watching stuff like that!!!2

Morning all,
Glad DH is home and recuperating @joedenise. Sounds like he could do with the rest. Thank you for sharing - I had no idea that was a thing. Well done also on your loss xx
Stepmum understandably doesn't want DDad home until he's fully well. She left several messages last night saying how stressed and anxious she is. Not sure what she's expecting but I'm not getting on a plane as have commitments here. Their choice to move abroad!
We are at the cinema tonight to see Killers of the Flower Moon which is 3.5 hours long! We've chosen a 6.30pm showing to hopefully enable us (me!) to stay awake. Not sure why these films have to be so flaming long!
Food today:
B - Puffed wheat, mullerlight vanilla, plums, banana - HEB, 0.5, S, free
L - Feta, figs, salad leaves, tomatoes, pickles - HEA, S
D - Tin Can Massamam curry - free
HEA - milk
Syns - hi fi bar - 3

@Coxy11 - if it means that just other people's DHs go and get the simple scan done when they're called then it could save their lives. Most men of 65 will get a Normal scan; I think the nurses said it was a very small percentage that have increased figures and need regular retesting but not necessarily end up need to have the op. They don't operate until the aorta measurement gets to 5.5cm which is what DHs reading was this year. They always move quickly but this was more rapid than normal due to the fact it had stayed static for 2 years at 4.3cm and then increased to 5.5 this year - so a big jump in one year which isn't good.
Right enough of the medical stuff! Back to SW. Not much going on today as normal I would go shopping today but did that yesterday morning when I was out at group. Still need to go to the butchers but I'll do that tomorrow. Need to get more low fat sausages and burgers. No sausages means no fry up at the weekend and DH does love his fry ups!!!
@Coxy11 - what is the Tin Can Massamam curry recipe? Sounds as though it could be a useful addition to the repertoire - especially as it's Free. Don't think I've ever had a Massamam before - is it a mild/medium one?
Today's plan:
B - overnight oats, frozen cherries, frozen strawberries and blueberries - HEB; S; F
L - stuffed peppers - HEA2; S; F (these were supposed to be for Tuesday!)
D - oxtail stew, mash - P; S; F
HEA1 - milk
HEA2 - cheese
HEB - oats
Syns - going to have a drink tonight as still didn't have the planned one last night! DH was in bed by 8.30pm and I wasn't going to drink on my own!
Have a good day everyone.1 -
Hi @joedenise the recipe is on the SW app - just called Massaman Curry. I'd say it's medium. It's vegetarian and very cheap and quick to make.Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings2

Nice to have somewhere to have a daily check in.
Still not quite trusting that I can have unlimited potatoes so having to just go for it. I chuck a bag of baby potatoes in the AF with just a few sprays of oil and lots of seasoning. Very happily will snack on those and add to salads. I'm from NI so spuds are in my blood!
Yesterday only really had 2 big salads with 1 portion of feta (you don't get much for a portion!) crumbled over plus the baby potatoes.
Had an Options Mint in the morning and 2 in the evening as it soothes the need for something sweet and is the only thing with artificial sweetener that I can tolerate.
Has anyone got a recommendation for a sweetener that doesn't taste rank? I can't even eat the low fat yoghurts because of the sweetener, apart from fat free greek style natural mixed with frozen berries.

@joedenise pleased to learn that your OH is fixed and recuperating at home.
Re: the Aortic scanning, yes please do try and get your male family members/friend to find out about the scans. 10 years ago my DB then aged 50 was taken very ill quite literally miles from anywhere in mid wales, his work buddy rushed him to habitation (small town, no hospital, but his own medical practice) air ambulance summoned. Very convoluted story involving 2 hospitals who had not the facilities and then a dash by car with Doctor on board to big city hospital. 5 hour surgery, 5.1/2 weeks in induced coma, etc, etc, he survived, goodness knows how, further repair since. Sons and brothers since scanned and thankfully all clear. None of that experience will ever leave me.
Back to SW, lost 1lb at WI, smack on target, feeling human for first time in 2 weeks, so trying to get back on plan.
Well done to all losers and STS.
@bubbs keeping everything crossed that diagnosis for your friend is not NMD. @Coxy11 best wishes for your DDad.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)2
