  • Ah the social team are just members? That makes sense.
There are a few other local ones around so I will find another one and give it a wee go. If not, I will just go to get weighed.
I run and would really love to run at events without feeling like the biggest one every single time.
Not that I am always the biggest there, but it feels like it.
Apologies if I sounded quite negative about it but it was just cringingly patronising and didn't sit well with me at all. Not good for a first timer to hear. And when I have mentioned it to the other people I know who go to different groups, they weren't surprised at all!
My manager used to go to one for years with a great consultant. She moved and found that the new consultant she just couldn't take to at all so stopped going.
Welcome aboard, it is possibly going to be a rocky journey, but for so many people SW works

Do go try another group, as I said in my last post the relief consultant was very off putting for me, lovely lass, but when 20 stone and saying shes been on SW for 12 years, well if Id been a newbie Id have asked for my money back and walked :). I so get where you are coming from :)

Im very lucky, my consultant is very good, we get texts and followups one to one if we say we are struggling or we arent happy , she is always there encouraging, offering tips , suggestions. The other group I sometimes need to pop into , well tbh its more of a social "all friends together " type place and I just walk in, weigh and leave. All groups are different. And we are all different, a friend whom I introduced, she CBA with the meetings, she just weighs in and off she goes

For myself I cough up the money for the accountability . Doing it alone and I can cheat. Know Ive had a bad week, dont step on the scales. Weekly for me means my previous week is accounted for and then its up to me, face it and reign it in so damage is limited and get a loss the following week

It takes a 3500 calorie deficit to loose 1lb of fat, popping out for a Big Mac meal whilst out shopping, having a couple of glasses of wine and a take away for tea is a 1lb on - easy to gain, hard to loose

Add the menopause and yep its so not easy

I go to group and people have up to 6lb losses in a week, I could cheerfully murder them when I only get half a pound but Im losing, not gaining, and my food choices are becoming a lot healthier

Just find a group that fits you

@coxy11, does she perhaps have early onset? I ask because driving anxiety was a major factor for me when going through the menopause and Im guessing shes older then that? Driving anxiety would kick in again if there were problems, along with brain fog, forgetting to mention things
  • @SingleSue, you are doing so well, especially with your health taking a dive as it has

I was thinking outside the box here. So forgive me if this is too far from the norm.  Have you looked at maternity trousers /jeans? They have the bigger soft waists for the bump but the legs are still as they should be

I have a pair of jodhpurs from a charity shop, they are maternity ones, size 8 but the waist band is nearly as high as big knickers so no pressure at all on the belly. A ten, normal range is so baggy on the legs but Id not be able to wear a normal 8 without cutting myself in half, these are working really well.

I didnt realise they were maternity until I got them home lol

    Morning all,

Thanks for the kind words about DDad. He's now in Limassol at a private hospital and has had a good night. Think they are draining his lung today and then we await next steps. Don't know about early onset @Longwalker - Stepmum is 65, Dad 83. She's South American and has always been very melodramatic.

Work is awful right now. The end of November cannot come quickly enough. My two bosses are no longer speaking so it's like being caught between divorcing parents  :(

I am very very tired atm. I'm awake at 6am (usually with a hot flush) and I'm falling asleep at 9-9.30pm. What's that all about? I sleep really well - right through with no breaks - just can't keep awake in the evenings. Maybe it's stress!?

Welcome @NornIronRose - I agree that groups vary hugely. I think the consultant needs to be a target member to become a consultant, but what happens after that who checks? My current consultant has a way to go to get back to target. All our social team are target members currently, but that's not always the case. Good to have you posting here and please ask us about the plan/syns etc. x

    Food today:
    B - poached egg, mushrooms, tomato, 1 x WM toast - P, S, 1/2 HEB
L - JP, baked beans, cheese, lettuce, pickles - Free, HEA, S
    D - pork bolognaise - 1 syn
    HEA - milk
1/2 HEB - hi fi bar
Syns - rum and pepsi max 3 (if I can stay awake long enough) plus 1 = 4 total

Morning all, it's another wet day, been raining overnight but not rainng at the moment.  Looked at the forecast last night and we've got one dry day in the next 10 days and that's Sunday so think it will be washing day, including bedding so I can get get it out on the line to dry!

@Coxy11 - consultants don't have to be at target to become consultants.  It's open to any member who has lost some weight and is still losing but it seems that once they become consultants they don't seem to worry too much about losing.  One of the consultants who is a member at my current group and used to be a member at my old group lost over 5 stone previously but think she's put most of it back on but is now losing again.  I often think they ought to be better role models.

    Today's plan:

    B - toasted bacon & mushroom sandwich - HEB; P; S; 2
    L - fig and feta salad - HEA2; S; F
D - Fakeaway KFC; corn on the cob, chips; beans - P; F

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - feta
    HEB - bread
Syns - low fat olive oil spread 2; couple G&Ts 6

    Have a good day everyone.

  • Thanks for the warm welcome. I need to get my head around how to do this. I stepped on the scales this morning and have lost nothing but actually had not a huge amount to eat over the past few days. Usually I see a difference within a couple of days when I am being careful with my food (I'm an all or nothing kind of person).

Do you have to make sure that you have the 2 x A things and the 1 x B every day? And some Syns?

I did have an options hot choc and a packet of Lentil crisps last night along with some fruit so that was positive compared to my usual night graze!
Other than that I have had only free foods since I started. Haven't had rice, pasta etc at all so am not overloading on those.

Do you just get to be that you eat similar things rathet than having to look them up each time? Or do you sit down and make a menu up that includes your bread or whatever? I think I'm nervous of eating things that aren't on the free foods list because I really need this to work.
  • Hi all long time no speak (again)

I'm really struggling at the moment, I get my head in the right space then it lasts max 5/6 days and I'm back to the bad habits.

I am still exercising, so it is purely down to too much of the wrong stuff passing my lips.

There has been a lot going on, my OH has been pushing himself to get back into work, but he's just not well enough. He scored 0 points on ESA so convinced the Drs think he's a hypochondriac. Whilst we don't need the money, and extra £800 a month would have been nice, I was hoping this would have been just what he needed.

I'm starting to realise I just don't like my job, but not sure what else I want to do, I'm in the CS and want to keep the pension going, and my pay is pretty good and can't/won't want to afford a pay reduction.

My B12 is also low which I'm sure isn't helping with what I'm eating as I just feel exhausted all the time.

But I will persevere, out for a carvery Sunday so not too bad an option for eating out. Will be doing a food diary from Monday and trying to check in here more often

WI today and really pleased to have lost 1 lb especially after being away for 2 days, but I did my best to stick to the plan and have switched wine for gin and slimline when I go out.  So that is now a total of 5 lbs - am really hoping to lost 2 next week so I can get my half stone.

    Today's plan
    B overnight oats (HEB)
L BGTY sausage (1syn), hard boiled egg, salad and two tablespoons extra lighter than light mayo (1 syn) and 3 extra light babybel (HEA) plus loads of salad
D home made cottage pie with peas, sweetcorn and carrots and topping of swede and carrot mash served with cabbage.
    Other HEA is milk
    Snacking fruit and yoghurt
I am making a real effort this week to use lots of speed at lunch and dinner as possible.

@NornIronRose - believe it or not you can eat loads and still lose weight as long as you are eating the right things.  It would be a good idea to read your books which explains the plan properly.  You're right to be eating the Free foods but it's important to have the Healthy Extra As and Bs at least a few times a week even if you don't have them every day - I have at least one HEA every day as I use pretty much most of one on cups of tea!  I usually HEB most days - a sandwich, porridge, a wrap or whatever.

Planning certainly helps to make sure you have what your body needs to function properly which includes protein, some fats, fibre (HEB), vitamins, calcium (HEA).  You also need to have syns - SW say 5 - 15 a day but some people like to work a syn bank - ie 105 syns over the week.  I've done both the syn bank and daily syns and don't think it makes much difference to weight loss as long as you have some.  If you don't have some you won't stick to the plan and aren't even following the plan.  There is absolutely no need to avoid carbs - they are a Free food as long as you don't load them with butter (unless you syn it, which of course you can if it's within your syn allowance!).

I actually plan 3 meals a day for the whole month at a time - I started doing this when I was working as I hated the not knowing what we were going to be eating that night when I got home from work!  In those dates it was just a week at a time and only the evening meal as breakfast was always the same - fruit and yoghurt when I got to work, lunch was usually a sandwich or soup in a flask and then the planned evening meal.  When I retired I decided it was easier just to plan everything!  Obviously it isn't set in stone and changes if for example we go away in our motorhome when I just move evening meals around and take HM ready meals from the freezer which reheat easily and we generally eat out at lunchtime when I choose as sensibly as possible.

    Hope that helps.
