Got back from the hospital and having lunch about an hour ago.  Made a good choice for lunch with a sirloin steak, tomato, mushroom, peas, onions rings (only ate one and gave DH the 2 biggest ones!) plus a Mediterranean salad.  Would be a few syns for the dressing on the salad plus a glass of wine.  Was a very enjoyable lunch and also a reasonable price.  DH decided on a mixed grill with a beer to drink.

His hospital test went well.  Now waiting on appointments for another test and a CT scan before a decision is made on whether or not to operate.  Hope they arrange the CT and the test on the same day as the hospital is over an hour away - we left home just before 8am for a 10am appointment as we were going to park in the park and ride and get the bus as parking is really expensive at the hospital and only £4 all day at the P&R.  Got to the P&R around 9.05 and didn't get a bus into Canterbury city centre until about 9.25 - the buses are supposed to run every 8 minutes so must have cut at least one if not 2 out as there were loads of people waiting.  We were extremely lucky to catch the bus from the City Centre to the hospital almost immediately and made it to the hospital with about 15 minutes to spare - he then got called in within about 3 minutes so we were actually out of the hospital by about 10.05!

@Jellybaby - I just wish I could stomach tomato soup as I'd definitely make some but I can't stand it.  I'll eat virtually any other soup just not tomato!  We picked another big punnet of tomatoes when we got home so I've now got 3 small punnets, one large punnet and several salad tomatoes plus 3 beef tomatoes and there looks to be loads more salad and cherry tomatoes which will be ready tomorrow or Saturday.  I'm really going to have to make some more sauces and freeze them - just hope I can find some freezer space!

  • Hope your husband had a good birthday @maman.  Thanks for the welcome @Coxy11.

Pretty much on plan today. Boiled egg for breakfast. For lunch I decided to make vegetable soup but my soup maker decided to stop working.  It had heated the soup and cook the veg but I had to use a hand blender on it. Need to research new soup makers I guess. Dinner tonight is a chicken stirfry.

    Have a good evening everybody.

Morning all, we've got another dry, sunny day so washing the bedding it is!  It's in the machine at the moment so will be going out on the line a bit later.  I've already washed the whites and got that out on the line.

You're doing well with eating the SW way @shirleytch.  Do you really need a soup maker?  It's simple enough to do in a saucepan and then just use a stick blender or liquidiser to make it smooth if that's how you like it.  I've never had a soup maker and never felt the need for one for something that's so simple to do.  Assume there must be some advantages but I can't see them!

Think I'm going to make some jelly today to have later with the fruit.  Don't think I mentioned it a while back but I made a G&T jelly using 50ml the 0% gin, 250ml diet tonic made up with water and some gelatine sheets.  It was nice but a bit weird with the bubbles when you ate it.  Will make that again at some stage but not today as don't think it'll go well with fruit!

    Today's plan:

    B - kedgeree - P; S; F
L - something with the gammon I bought the other day but not sure what yet - might even end up as a sandwich!
D - HM faggots, mash, pease pudding (don't even know if I like it! not had it since I was a kid and didn't like it then!), mixed veg (so at least I've got some veg I can eat - P; S; F; 1
    S - fruit and yoghurt

    HEA - milk
    HEB - ? possibly bread
    Syns - Ryvita 1

    Have a good day everyone.
  • Morning all.

I love my soup maker @joedenise - for me it's just that I can chuck everything in and it's ready in 20 minutes with only 1 thing to wash up rather than a pan and a blender.  Must get it out again soon as autumn is starting to actually arrive.

Hope your DS knows he owes you one @Jellybaby (I'm assuming you picked him up?) 🤣

Shortish day for me today as going up to Lancashire to stay with my best friend this weekend.  Haven't seen her since May when she told me she was pregnant and now she only has weeks before the little one is here 🤯😍  So a weekend of forced relaxation for her and I've offered to help with the DIY as they're having their kitchen ripped out next week 😆

Breakfast was scrambled eggs, toast and some plums, lunch is going to be a stir fry to fill me up (and use up veg) and then I've got a snack box sorted for the car for the long drive.  I also have a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to take with me (it's a little in joke / tradition with us) that I have to try and not stare at all day!

Hope you all have a good day and weekend, see you next week.

Thanks @ruby_eskimo for your reason for having a soup maker.  I can see it's really quick and saves washing up but still not sure it's worth it for me.  Good luck with not staring at the Krispy Kreme doughnuts!  Not had one of those since I was working - and that was 13 years ago!!!

i also like my soup maker Denise. Much easier for disabled people. Anything that reduces physical effort is a winner for me.

Have a lovely weekend Aunty Ruby 😁 and be prepared for the little one coming even earlier, always happens when there's something else big on the go!

Think I've said before, I received a soup maker as a gift and was dubious at first but do use it loads now. Although I still do lentil soup in the slow cooker 🤣

Been on plan all week and really hoping for a decent loss tomorrow but will just have to see what the scales decide!

    Today's food:
    B - toast (HEB) jam 4 syns
L - flaked salmon, salad, pickled beetroot
D - pork medallions, new potatoes, roasted leeks, tomatoes, peppers and carrots

Hope you're all having a good day!

Thanks for the comments about soup makers but unless someone kindly gives me one for a present or I can pick one up from a charity shop (some hope) then can't see me getting one!

We ended up with gammon salad sandwich for lunch so I've had my HEB and a couple of syns for low fat spread.
