Oh dear @joedenise. What a lot of messing around to learn SFA! 🤔 I think you deserve your extra syns just for putting up with all of that. I hope you enjoyed the prawn sandwich.

I'm sure its a good thing that tests are done and that you get a speedy appointment, to say nothing of the early morning notification of results but seems a mystery why thy don't explain what they're looking for especially as COPD isn't a new thing. Sounds like a bit of left and right hand not speaking to each other or to you!

@MrsPorridge. If you like red berries then it's worth keeping some in the freezer to have with porridge or yogurt. I buy these or the summer fruits. I'm not overly keen on the strawberries as they're a bit soggy but I like the sharpness of the others.

I'm feeling better today although flagging a bit as the day goes through. I went to Asda @bubbs but no bargain air fryers to be had. 😢 While I was out, I did find a new coat for DH . He's been looking for ages and is very fussy about choosing his own clothes. I decided to go for it and take it back if necessary. It's  North Face and, although it was reduced, I could have bought a state of the art air fryer for the same price!

Today's menu is a bit high on baked beans as they're in the sausage casserole too but enjoyable all the same. I did get some BGTY sausages YS in Sainsbury's this morning but they're for the freezer as I already had some out for tonight.

B- HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks, fried egg, bacon (P), baked beans (F)
L- ham (P), fried veg and pickles (S)
    D- sausage casserole (P,S,F), penne (F)
    Syns- Aldi sausages 1

  • What a nightmare of a day @jodenise

@MrsPorridge, I buy the frozen red berries from Lidl, they are lovely as are the cherries. Ideal for my yoghurt for brunch

@Coxy11, hold on tight, not long to go now

Well after the dodgy weekend Ive been back on plan and the speed is hitting the plate. I had my review with the nurse yesterday and it went really well. I was in there for a good while, chatting about a whole host of things that you never get time to discuss with the GP.  Shes going to chase my audiology appointment - referred May 22, not heard a word and she looking into what counselling help is available re my drinking . I had great support in London and stayed dry for 12 years. Fell of the wagon here, asked for help and was left to my own devices , so that was it. I need to stop again

So a very late lunch of kippers on a bed of salad on WM bread - was lovely

Then I made a beef stew with more speed then beef for dinner, only I wasnt hungry. Also made a big pot of vegetable soup

Horrible shifts now for the rest of the week - 10;30 starts. I dont get hungry till around 1pm and I dont get a break as I finish at 2:30, by which time Im starved, I hate this shift with a passion. Not for the work, but cos it really messes me up with SW.. I think Ill make my yoghurt up as usual and leave it in the back kitchen and grab a mouthful as and when I can

Anyways Ive got to get a wiggle on, dog needs walking before I head in

Have a good day everyone xxx

Morning all, feeling a bit less p*ssed off this morning but still annoyed by the complete and utter waste of time.  Now just have to wait and see whether the GP contacts him this week for another blood test!

It's dry and bright this morning so have washed the bedding and have it on the line with another load in the machine which is nearly finished.  Have to make the most of the weather when we can, eh?  It's supposed to be dry again on Sunday so will get more done then!

@Longwalker - sounds a good plan to have your fruit and yoghurt in the back kitchen so that you can grab some when you get a minute.  Nothing worse than getting over hungry.  I find if I go too far past my normal meal times I can't actually eat because of it which is why I try to eat at fairly regular times.  Have only just had breakfast but that was about as late as I can manage as usually eat around 8.30ish.  Lunch is usually between 12.30 and 1pm and dinner between 6pm and 6.30pm.  Then we'll often have something like fruit and yoghurt around 9ish although lately we've been going to bed and watching TV in bed as it's much warmer in the bedroom than the living room!

    So today's plan:

    B - kedgeree - P; S; F
    L - scrambled eggs and spinach on toast - HEB; P; S
    D - Katsu chicken, rice - P; S; F; 3.5

    HEA - milk
    HEB- bread
    Syns - almonds 3.5

    Have a good day everyone.

We love cherries too @Longwalker, eat loads of fresh ones in Turkey when they only cost pennies per kg compared with here. Unfortunately, while delicious and healthy they're only free not Speed.

It's tough when your regular mealtimes are messed up especially as you don't want anything before you start these shifts. We have fairly regular mealtimes too which I think helps me not to snack although I do sometimes grab bits from the fridge like the odd slice of ham or a tomato but I think that's probably just because I can. I tend to have dinner later (about 7.30pm unless I'm going out) but we don't have anything after that other than a drink.

So pleased you had a successful appointment with the nurse @Longwalker. Perhaps now that you've achieved your target weight, you're in the right frame of mind for a new challenge.

It's lovely and sunny here too @joedenise . I did look at the washing basket but not really enough. Friday is forecast to be good here too so I'll change the bed then.

I did extra pasta last night and made a version of the salmon and broccoli linguine for my lunch. I found the yogurt based sauce a bit bland last time so used Primula & parmesan instead. It was better but don't think it'll be a regular thing. I think I much prefer tomato based sauces.

    Today's EE plan-
B- HEB toast, HEA1 milk for drinks, bacon, egg (P), baked beans (F)
L- salmon and broccoli pasta (P,S,F, HEA2 cheese)
    D - chicken casserole (P,S,F), broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages (S)
    Syns - cornflour 1

    Hi all,

Glad you’ve had a better day @joedenise. I’m another who loses appetite if I go too long. Amazing then, how I struggle to maintain a healthy weight!!

Good idea to have the overnight oats on standby @Longwalker – have you also thought about grapes or other little bits to keep you going?

I was awake from 5am just churning things over in my mind. Nephew’s anniversary is approaching so never good for the flashbacks and sudden moments of shock that still hit 7 years down the line. I had a bad stomach-ache – really felt like I’d been kicked. Did actually debate whether to come into the office but I got a slightly later train, took my time and it pain has subsided.

    Food has been:

B – pear, overnight oats, muller vanilla, cherries – S, HEB, 0.5, free

    L – M&S fruity couscous, 2 satsumas, apple – 5, S

D – Pork Char Sui (new recipe) – free

    HEA – milk

    Syns – hi fi 3, yoghurt 0.5, couscous 5 = 8.5 total

@joedenise what an awful experience at the hospital.  @Coxy11 hugs

    Today:
B wholemeal muffin with 1 tsp jam (HEB 1 syn)
    L tuna salad
    D SW chilli with rice
    Biscuit (5 syns)
Debt free and Keeping on Track
  • Take loads of hugs both @jodenise and @Coxy11

@maman , this is what we discussed, am I strong enough to take on this battle as well. I have to say the Nurse is lovely, shes as down to earth as anyone, she doesn't preach or dictate and of course you have to time to talk

My fear, and Im petrified tbh, is picking a date and having to go it alone

Last time I kind of didnt have a choice, I was on deaths door, it was quit or not make 40. But OMG I had great support, maybe not the best during my detox - detox before Christmas anyone ??? Lol Yes I had to survive Christmas and New year alone but at least I still had the hell of detox reminding me. Then I landed on my feet and got into a Rehab and my god. Yes I fought every day, but they kept with me and I finally engaged and worked my socks off working on me and understanding my self and learning how to deal with life without picking up a drink

Us alkies do not make life easy for ourselves

When I moved here I lost all the support I had, and I moved into a situation that I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy - of course drink was coming back into my life. I lasted a good while tbh, even worked in a pub and never touched a drop, but I knew it was coming. Went to AA ( I HATE AA ) but I was only putting off what was coming

I have quit a few times since, but its been for a month or so. Luckily at this point, whilst I drink in a week what most people would drink in a month, I dont get withdrawal. I also never get hangovers and can easily put a bottle of scotch in me and be at work at 7am the following day. Nothing to be proud about, just saying how it is. Seriously its a ruddy miracle that Ive lost any weight at all cos I exceed all syns every day - on scotch

But as I explained in my last post, this year wasnt just about losing weight, it was about getting better all round and the big part of that was getting to grips with the booze

And now everything else has been cleared Ive got to face it , and Im petrified

I blurted out to Mr L tonight that Im doing dry January, so thats it, Ive said it out loud, Ive got to do it

Sorry for the self centred post

So today I made my yoghurt and fruit and took it into work - and had to share with all and sundry :) But it worked , kept me from picking and thinking Id faint from hunger :)  So I will do the same for tomorrow and Friday. Think taking the boss in a wee pot for herself helped there :)

Came home, walked the dog, then had 30 mins of ME time, made myself a frothy coffee and found one of those 70 cal bars hid in the cupboard and that kept me going till dinner - and more speed then you can shake a stick at. Egg fried rice full of peas and scallions and chicken with peppers, leeks, water chestnuts in a mish mash of Chinese flavours, I had black beans, soy, rice wine , blob of chilli - whatever I thought would make it tasty went in - and it was

Loads left over so a couple of lunches in the freezer

Doubt if the scales will be kind to me this week, but a STS will be a win

Must say, Im pretty impressed with the range of recipes on the site. Im lucky that Mr L will eat anything as long as theres a lot of flavour, bit stuck with the Mother, she tends to pick around anything thats not traditional meat and 3 veg so I have to adapt for all of us but theres so many good recipes
