Ignore them now until you get a court claim (see NEWBIES thread). But:Please please (please) do this and give the Government your evidence and tell them how receiving extortionate 3 figure demands feels:https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6471857/please-reply-to-question-4-of-the-governments-call-for-evidence-re-the-level-of-parking-charges
It's one email. One question. Change the law...

@Coupon-mad I will. By "evidence" I'm not sure what to send aside from a scan of the original letter/invoice and the email from POPLA. Do I tell them what happened to show how unjust it is?

Yes - in your own words.
But perhaps with this flavour:
:
Explaining how wronged you feel ,and that you certainly will not be paying, particularly not if and when you get £170 demands from debt collectors which in fact will make you even less likely to engage because consumers see this as extortionate bullying.
And the evidence (the fact you appealed to POPLA) shows you are normally minded NOT to ignore things, so you wanted the DLUHC to hear a reasonable person's perspective as to why people don't and won't pay.
Not because you've exhausted a fair opportunity to dispute the charge - quite the opposite - because you were never afforded that and certainly won't get it from a useless 'parking debt collector'.
Had the parking firm engaged with YOU properly and not sent a template rejection, then referred you to what turned out to be a kangaroo court, and had they backed down or offered to settle at, say, £20, there would have been no dispute. It's the fact that mitigating circumstances are ignored and the money increases that STOPS you even thinking of paying anything because it's unacceptable.PRIVATE 'PCN'? @Coupon-mad Thank you very much. I will do that but I will leave out the £20 part as paying them even a penny for this situation would be suggestive that they have a sliver of justification which they do not.

Yes I re-read your first post after I wrote that and thought you'd say that! I agree.
The point is to show the DLUHC that reasonable people are (rightly) not paying debt collectors and the threat of them and an increase to £170 does not for one minute scare or encourage you to cough up.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Hello @Coupon-mad and interested folks, We have just received our reply from the Popla appeal, which has been unsuccessful. I know I should have expected it but I did think that in this particular case, they would think they don't have a leg to stand on but clearly not. I have the message which I can share if need be. I am guessing that now I am to wait until we recieve a court letter? but hoping someone can guide me what is best to do now. Thank you.

As you know, POPLA decisions are not binding on the motorist. Please post the decision in the POPLA Decisions thread (but add a few paragraph breaks). When/if you receive a letter of/before claim refer back to the NEWBIE sticky.2

Well, an interesting update...after receiving the "unsuccessful" appeal message yesterday we have now received a "confirmation of cancellation" letter from Civil Enforcement.3

I can't help but wonder what happened between the two groups; Popla and Civil Enforcement, to cause one to say our appeal was unsuccessful and include a bunch of blurb as to why- while the very next day the other messages saying the notice is cancelled. Unusual?
