Money In and Money Out 💰
The invoice money hit the business bank account today 🥳 So I paid us our very first dividend 🥳 Very exciting! We probably won't take these very often as they aren't the most tax efficient way of drawing income for us. However, this first one takes advantage of the dividend tax allowance for this financial year so makes sense.
The business also bought us an Easter gift each - a hamper with chocolate egg and bottle of wine 😁 As Directors we can receive 6 small gifts a year from the business. We're spending our own money of course but we do like to treat ourselves to a little indulgence now and then and, if we do it through the business, there is a tax saving. So, if the money's there, it makes sense to fund it that way.
It's a new month today so time to invoice our long term client. They paid super quickly last month 😁
The grocery shop arrived and came in a little under budget this week. I also ordered some fat balls for the birds as we've completely run out and it's very cold out at the moment - costs were met from the contingency budget.
I've sorted out some social dates for the next couple of months as the diary was looking a little forlorn. Most are no/low cost but will give us something to look forward to and a little light relief.
I thought I'd be feeling rich today but, we'll have to pay 50% of the new back door cost soon so any money floating about is ear-marked for that. However, we are warm and dry, fed and watered and have some treats on the way.

It seems as though I am the one with a bad memory BM 😆 Well, whoever it was, thank you for the advice - it has been taken on board.
It's £1k this financial year and goes down to £500 next. I suspect they are phasing it out entirely. It only saves us 1% in tax but I'd rather that 1% was in our pocket.

You reminded me why we took out dividends when we did (before the amount dropped again) - and that we couldn't have solidly predicted my return to self employed via Ltd Co which is why we only left three months wages in retained profit. I used to pay myself at the rate where the employer (me) has to pay NI stamp but I didn't which pays off in pension terms. The HMRC free payroll software works ok if it is just the two of you. The most painful bit for me was/is remembering that you gave to file a PAYE no payments return monthly even if you can't pay yourself. If you forget too many times they fine you. Someone's ears were burning 👂🔥😆
My accountant called. She has been thinking about clients like us who are start up businesses and have only just contracted with her and thinks the price rise is too big a hike for us. So... she is keeping our fees at the current rate for another 12 months, after which, we'll review things 👏 Brilliant!
We threw caution to the wind this evening and ordered an indian takeaway from our local restaurant 😲 It seemed only right to support them on their opening night 😆 The food was gorgeous but not cheap - although we've only ever had one other indian takeaway in the 6 1/2 years we've lived here so I wouldn't know if it was expensive by usual standards. Costs will be met from the fun money.
We've opened a bottle of red to accompany our curry so the weekend is off to a good start. And... I cleaned the en-suite today 😆 I've figured out why I've convinced everyone I'm a clean freak. I read back over some of my previous diary which started when we moved in here. It talks about cleaning... a lot 😂 First it was the cleaning of the house, then the cleaning of the barn, then the cleaning of the Annexe 😂 It doesn't sound as though I did much else in those early days 😂 Fortunately the cleaning frenzy abated after a while.
I'm not intending to do much cleaning this weekend. I might push the vacuum around a bit but, other than that, I'm intending to paint and read and bake and generally have a relaxing time.
Happy Friday all!

I think it stuck in my head that you vacuum(ed) every day because of FDawg… while I probably should with cat fur and litter, it doesn’t happen! (I do try to sweep the hall every day to stop the litter being walked elsewhere.)

That might happen in an alternate universe where life doesn't get in the way MV 😂 And it might have been my original intention. However, I try for every other day now as he really is a shedder.

Our black dog has a habit of throwing himself to the floor and wriggling around on the beige carpet. I'm hoovering every couple of days and it looks like a hoover advert as you can definitely see where I've been.Mortgage Free November 2018

Meeting the Neighbours
Thursday, 13 July 2017 - our first day in our new home. We woke and drew back the curtains to find 30 cows from the nextdoor neighbour's field had worked out how to open the gate between us and were happily breakfasting on our lawn 😂 Mr F had to round them up and herd them back into their field while I helped by taking photographs and laughing.
