Wasn't it a lovely idea Beanie. We were the first to know too. The other grandparents (2 sets) will be getting their flowers tomorrow - I suspect because it's mother's day.

Yes, it's a balance thing for us. If we had easy access to sheep over the autumn/spring I'd likely do that. But we don't, we have cows, and while we did put them in from August to November one year, it's very close to the house, and Mr Cheery hated them peering through the windows 😂 And we have a very derelict barn in that field that would need fencing off. Not saying never, but it's a compromise, and for now, scything is what we're going with 😊 If I ever get it cut quickly enough, I might let them in for a couple of weeks at the end of the season to eat the regrowth before they leave for the winter - I suspect that would be beneficial, but I've never cut it quickly enough!Fortune_Smiles said:Cheery_Daff said:Ooh, that's interesting about your meadow restoration project 😊 Do keep us updated. As you know I am slowly trying to restore ours but it's a rather unwieldy enterprise 😂 I might add it to the Bug Life website!
Will do Cheery. Have a look and see whether you're in a B-Line. I know you're very keen on your sythe but grazing can be really effective and important in meadow maintenance. Having said "no" to the sheep last year, we'll be reintroducing them in the autumn.

We're not in a B-Line - they weave around us and leave us in a little empty circle in the middle 😂 Couldnt see where to add a project on the website, but will have a look on the laptop tomorrow.
How lovely to hear more about the new addition 😊6 -

Yes - cows are a different kettle of... well cows 😂 They can really compact the ground which doesn't help the meadow.
Here's the B-Line map just click on 'add site'. It doesn't matter if you're not in a B-Line - they want to know about all relevant projects. It would be lovely to get to a point where there were no empty circles.

Our garden is no where near big enough for a meadow but we do "No Mow May", which I manage to sell to Mr VH as "you can be lazy about mowing the lawn but tell people it's to help nature".
Every year I have great plans to put in a few new plants, bulbs and the like in the space under the lilac, and buy some pots and plant up more things in them. And every year I never do it. I don't think it helps that we don't have an outdoor tap so all watering has to be done with a watering can and takes up much more time."You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.

Thank you SH. I'm very excited about the meadow - the more I learn, the more invested I get.

Thank you Teapot. I think the title applies just as much to me as the meadow. The older I get the more untamed I become 😆

Everything helps VH - if we all did just one thing for nature it would make an enormous difference.
