Hi SH 👋 I've always been interested in nature and it's been such a joy walking through the meadow since we started restoring it. So much to see and learn.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hello SD - welcome to the party 🥳 It's taken a while to get to what we feel is the right balance and it helps a lot that we're semi-retired. We'll become grandparents for the first time this year so I expect things will start to change again soon. Thank you for your kind words and do pop in again.

Responsible Adult? 🤔
I have had some recent blood test results back. My blood pressure is in the pre-hypertension range and... I have high cholesterol 🙄 Other than that, I am practically perfect in every way 😂 All my other results are bang smack in the middle of normal range. It's time for me to take responsibility and do something about this... and not make a start and then sabotage myself again as soon as I've lost a few pounds. I am a little overweight, don't do enough exercise and my will power caves as soon as a slice of cake is put in front of me. This needs to change. Please feel free to call me out when I fall off the wagon... loudly 📢
So I am back to counting calories, saturated fat and sugar. Mr F made boiled eggs with marmite toast for breakfast. Lunch was a tuna salad with loads of fresh vegetables. Supper was Leek, Spring Green & Apple Soup - healthy but won't become a favourite anytime soon. I had a small handful of almonds as a snack. Really hoping this is my health light bulb moment 💡 I am fed up with feeling under par half of the time.
No exercise today as I've had a headache but I have managed to get through a few chores and keep busy. I've lost 2lbs so far this week.
Well begun is half done 🌂
Mr F has worked pretty much all of this week so we are a little ahead of our target income for the month.
The pub opening was fab. We bumped into some friends there and it turned out to be a jolly evening. I think the food is going to be much better under the new management - that's if the delicious canapes were anything to go by. I only had a few and one glass of prosecco and that was all free (and pre-healthy lightbulb moment). Mr F had a few (many) beers with his friends so was a little worse for wear this morning.
We've nothing planned for the weekend and the weather forecast isn't brilliant so I'm thinking I'll work on some sewing/craft projects that have been in limbo for a while. I finished the rag rabbits so will be posting those off to the bumps this week.
Happy Friday all 😘

Well done for taking hold of your health. I need to do the same, but have similar issues with willpower and cake 🙄 But I shall soldier on, and be inspired by your good example! And be chastened slightly by my dad's example - he has NOT looked after his health over the years, and now has, among several other recently discovered ailments, two diabetic ulcers on his foot, and is at risk of losing a toe if they can't remove the infection with an operation 🙄 That type of thing is NOT on my future goals list 🙄 Add in other family illnesses and I really need to take myself in hand...7 -

Ladies - I join you in the struggle with willpower. All goes well until I arrive home late & exhausted (usually due to train issues.) Then I want to eat everything in sight - not necessarily unhealthy, just EVERYTHING! I also have a real predilection for salty crisps and chocolate (together) when I get stressed at work - about once a week! I've addressed this little problem with some electrolyte tablets starting two weeks ago, hopefully that's all it will take as a healthier habit.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! On the willpower /cakes eternal dilemma etc I had a lovely slim relative die last year due to a diabetic amputation left too long - at 56 yrs of age - so such a shock - this is why now I have added dark greens - a huge plate every day to my food - it has had the nice side effect of filling me up and making my blood sugar level more stable... I like kale but also add broccoli, spinach etc as much as possible - I now have gone from haribo excess in 2023 to craving kale so worth just adding in extra greens even before or whilst also reducing some things.
You crave less 'rubbish' when your blood sugar is stable which kale helps with healing the liver - at least that has happened to me and I have just googled and the science agrees with me
'Kale is known as a “superfood” because it is packed with substances that can help lower blood sugar levels such as fiber and flavonoids antioxidants. A study including 42 Japanese adults showed that eating 7 to 14 grams of kale-containing foods matched with a high carb meal can lower post-meal blood sugar spikes'DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

The struggle is real 😆
I'm feeling pretty determined this time. I want to feel well, have energy, be fit enough to do stuff and enjoy life... and be able to wear several beautiful outfits in my wardrobe that have been too small for me for years.. I'm only just starting to have these health issues so there's time to fix them if I do the right things.
I think Mr F is starting to worry about me too - he dreamt last night that he'd saved me from an apocolyptic fire sweeping the country 😲 I think maybe our largely, plant-based diet might be getting to him too as, in the dream, I'd rewarded him for his heroic efforts by bringing him a bacon sandwich 🤣
Small consistent changes are the key so let's all keep taking small steps forward.
