The chard and spinach will be fine - watch for them bolting (which will turn the leaves bitter), but this is unlikely to happen until it warms up. My chard died in the cold but my spinach is ok, although recovering from pigeons when the wind blew the protection off. Re more sowings, you could start spinach off under cover now, but wait for the chard until April - can be sown at the same time as the beetroot you’ll be growing 😉Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I have both chard and spinach beet growing in troughs by the back door and am still harvesting them. I get about 1 meal's worth a week from each so its been handy over the winter.4

Thanks guys 😁 I will weed the bed and give them a bit of food and, hopefully, they'll keep me going for the year 😁

An Embarrassment of Riches! 💰
We got paid today! 🥳 Not just the two overdue invoices but a third just due and a fourth not due for another week. Hoorah! The money won't hit the account until Friday though.
So, I will pay us this year's tax free dividend allowance and the rest will stay in the account and go towards my end of March salary (which is already spent on the new back door 🙄).
In the 'not so good' financial news category, our accountant is increasing her costs... by 30%! 😲 I'm going to give her a ring to check that's correct as it seems a very large rise.
I got my car back yesterday 🥳 And it seems to be working. It also came back with upgraded GPS maps and a full tank of fuel by way of an apology 😁. There was less than a quarter of a tank of fuel in it when I dropped it off.
I've reconciled the bank and credit card accounts and budgeted until the end of April as far as I can. It's not so easy with a variable income. But all bills are covered and there seems to be a little flexibility in the budget now.
We took FDawg for his bath today and popped down to a local pub for lunch whilst we waited for him. Our timing was dire - they took our order just after a party of 16 gave theirs 🙄 The food was good but we had to eat in a bit of a rush by the time it arrived. Costs will be met from the fun money (now we have some 😆).
Happy Hump Day all.

Hooray for Payday! Great the you've been paid at long last!
Mine is tomorrow and while March & April are already budgeted for, our shed roof is in need of an Emergency repair, which I could use the emergency fund for, I'd rather budget for it out of 'new' money. Somehow the psychology of having an intact Emergfund is more important than budgeting for May!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 10 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 15 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!6 -
Oh happy day! And no @Fortune_Smiles I didn't recommend beetroot though would as I find it simply magical. I'm self-employed and pay myself the same small amount each month to cover the basics. Top-ups are as and when possible but I love logging into the business account and seeing a cushion that will pay me for months ahead. Love Humdinger xx6

Yes at last Beanie - we waited 86 days for one invoice to be paid so it's a relief to have the money in the bank.
30% is a huge increase and not one we were expecting in the first year of our contract 😲 I'm gathering my thoughts for a conversation with her about it on Monday.

I know what you mean RT - I hate taking money out of the emergency fund... even for emergencies 😆 It feels so good to have a cushion.Humdinger1 said:Oh happy day! Not you Humdinger - maybe Bad Memory then. I remember it was someone very wise.
We'll be paying ourselves a small salary too. Anything over and above that will be left in the business until the end of our tax year when we'll decide what best to do with it. That might be retaining it to cover future salary payments - it would give a nice sense of security.
