What passes for excitement in the Shire...
A hot air balloon came down in the field next to ours yesterday. Mr F was out mending the gate post and the recovery team came over to ask him who owned the land. Mr F provided details and, before they left, they gave him a bottle of wine for his trouble. Mr F demurred, as he didn't think he'd done anything to earn it, but they insisted 🍷🍷 😁 It went very well with our curry last night.
That's not the only excitement we've had this week. On Thursday, my grocery delivery was delayed when the van was forced onto the verge of our lane by a car going in the opposite direction. It got well and truly stuck. A very anxious and cold looking delivery driver came knocking at our window asking for help. Fortunately he'd come to the right place as Mr F's ears pricked up and he'd got the truck and winch out before the driver had even got back to the van. You could see that the driver was so relieved. He wanted to give Mr F something for his trouble too but we said not to. Mr F would have turned out just for the fun of it 🙄 Do you remember the cartoon 'Stop the Pigeon' with Dastardly and Mutley? The pigeon would play a little tune on the horn - that's the sound that goes off in Mr F's heard when he hears a vehicle needs rescuing 😂
I didn't do any painting yesterday in the end. Mr F and I looked at the weather forecast and it said we were going to have a few days of dry weather followed by two weeks of more rain. So... we took a chance and pruned some of the fruit trees. What a disaster. Just as we'd finished the heavens opened 🙁 One of the pears already has canker so I'm worried now about other disease setting in. But what can you do when it rains all the flipping time.
I did get some painting done today though. Mr F went out with his hiking group for the morning so I took advantage of the peace and quiet. I almost finished 😁 I'll go back to it with a fresh eye in a couple of days and make any final adjustments.
Also did half an hour of yoga this morning. I haven't done any for ages so just did a little to get me back in the swing of things. My shoulder seems to have held up ok.
Just had a sandwich for lunch as Mr F took a packed lunch out with him and we've leftover curry (and wine) for supper.
Hope you've had a fab weekend all

Oops, sorry I picked the wrong type of grounding! 😂
Well done to Mr F. Shame you're not round here - we have a 4x4 response team which is frequently rescuing people in the snow. Bet he'd love that.
Hot air balloon is high excitement!! We often see one go over, but have never had one land. What fun!4 -

Mr F was a member of the 4x4 response team back in Kentland but the nearest one to us now is way over the border. He confines himself to helping out friends and neighbours these days and gets very excited whenever snow is forecast 😂
I took a flight in a hot air balloon once. We landed in a lake on a golf course (the pilot was desperate to avoid the greens). Fortunately we were on the edge of the lake where the water was shallow. However, we did have to wait in our soggy trousers for half an hour for them to bring a golf trolley as they wouldn't let us walk on the course!CCW007 said:Fortune_Smiles said:What passes for excitement in the Shire...

There is a balloon festival in the Shire every year and the balloons fly right over us. They have an early start so I've often opened the bedroom curtains to find a whole string of them floating past 😲

I know all about waiting for invoices ..... argh... you definitely need a large float ...DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I'm hoping payment from this client will be faster going forward - we weren't set up on their system to start with then we found they had certain requirements which they hadn't shared with us. Now that's all sorted, payments should go through smoothly. But we will wait and see. Fingers crossed for Wednesday 🤞
I hope your invoices get paid soon LaPlan and good luck with the house hunting 🍀

In our last place (converted Hop Kiln) we were often woken on weekend mornings by the bleating of sheep in the field out the front. Balloons regularly flew low over the top of their hill when starting & ending their flights and the daft sheep would gather at the gate and make it know they were not best pleased!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I think it's lovely that they get their kicks helping others Teapot. And it's very handy to know someone who can help if you get into a sticky situation 😆rtandon27 said:In our last place (converted Hop Kiln) we were often woken on weekend mornings by the bleating of sheep in the field out the front. FDawg doesn't like the noise of the burners if the balloons are low - he let's us know if he thinks a balloon attack is imminent 😂 But then he let's us know if the dog eating owls are out and about or if crying babies are stuck in the television (amongst many other things) 😂

Spoke Too Soon
The day started well yesterday. Mr F and I walked FDawg along the lanes and started work in the garden as soon as we got back. All the fruit trees/bushes are now pruned 😁 I discovered that the perpetual spinach and chard have survived the winter (so far) and are starting to sprout new and tasty looking leaves. I've tidied them up but is it ok to let them continue growing? Will they be ok to harvest? Or should I pull them all up and start afresh? Advice from more experienced gardeners very welcome.
Fortunately we had leftover cabbage soup on the plan for lunch as my blood pressure had shot up by mid-day 🙁 I still don't know why this is happening. I have taken my eye off the healthy eating a little in the past week but I don't think so much as it would make a difference. I'm maybe a little tired. The only noticeable change has been that I've been drinking de-caf coffee the last couple of days so I'll cut that out again. Someone recommended I try beetroot juice (Humdinger? Bad Memory?). There's lots of research to suggest it helps in controlling high blood pressure so I've started to have a glass a day. Beetroot is not my favourite but I don't hate it and I hope it will do me some good.
So, I spent the afternoon in bed whilst Mr F cut as much of the lawn as possible with the little electric mower (it's far too soggy to get the ride on out). He tidied the kitchen and made some pasta and sauce for supper for us (freezer and jar). Although he is nagging me now about not drinking enough, not going to bed early enough, not getting enough exercise etc, etc, etc. He's becoming my conscience 🙄 It's like having a tiny Mr F sitting on each shoulder 😇😈😂
My blood pressure is still too high this morning but on the way down so I'll take it easy today. It's very irritating as I have things I want to get done but the doctor says I have to rest if I have an episode so rest I will. I have lots I can sit to do so will concentrate on those things for today. I'm now regretting not cleaning the en-suite when I had the chance 😆
Take care.
