The Return of Fortune 🥳
At last I can feel my energy returning - although it's two steps forward and one step back at the moment. Yesterday was a bit of a wash out but at least I managed to feed us properly. We had tuna, cheese, guacamole and salad wraps for lunch yesterday and Courgette Carbonara for supper. The courgettes were some of the last from the veg patch.
This morning I've managed to get some housework done. Just some light dusting and vacuuming but it's desparately needed. Mr F has been out to mow the grass 😲 I'm not sure he's well enough but he's insisting he is and it will probably be our last chance to get it done with Storm Babet due to roll into the Shire later.
We've just had some lunch - Goat's Cheese, Pear & Walnut Tartines. Sounds fancy doesn't it 😆 but really it's what I could cobble together from the fridge and freezer. I made a mistake with the meal plan this week and the recipe ingredients I needed for today's lunch aren't due to arrive until tomorrow 😆 The pear was one of the two Conference pears our baby orchard provided.
Having a little sit down now and then I'll continue with some more chores if I feel up to it.
So nice be up and about and a little more productive.
Batten down the hatches and stay safe peeps. I'm planning to ride out the storm with a bubble bath with Bake 0ff later.

Storm Babet just woke me up whistling loudDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

So glad you're feeling like you're headed in the right direction Fortune. Rotten when you're both feeling ill, especially when the other person is a worse patient!4

Glad you are starting to feel stronger.
Thanks @savingholmes . The storm wasn't too bad at the homestead - we've had worse standing water in the past. However, the surrounding villages had some flooding - our little, local train station was entirely under water 😲 I feel so bad for those whose homes have flooded - flood and fire must be the very worst things to affect the home. Feeling very grateful for our good fortune at the moment.LadyWithAPlan said:2 men down - sounds like a great art piece or a comedy tea towel - with fdawg looking on with his lead in his mouth !Hope you both get better soon

More of a tragedy than a comedy @LadyWithAPlan 😂

Thank you @rtandon27. You are always the first to notice when I'm AWOL. Thank you for checking in on me.Cheery_Daff said:So glad you're feeling like you're headed in the right direction Fortune. Rotten when you're both feeling ill, especially when the other person is a worse patient!
Thank you @Cheery_Daff. I'm a pathetic patient and Mr F is a grumpy patient - I'm not sure which of us is worse 😂 I'm thankful that I'd recovered enough to look after us both by the time he got home from his business trip.

Tail End
Mr F and I are both at the tail end of our lurgies. I have a lingering cough and Mr F is still a bit low energy but we are up and about and getting back to normal... or what counts for normal in the Fortunate Household 😂
We've been concentrating on eating healthily and getting enough rest. Meals have been:- Smoked Salmon, Cucumber, Capers and Soda Bread - I substituted the soda bread for wholemeal bread (the second loaf made in my new breadmaker). The cucumber was a surprise gift from the veg patch 😁 I'd planted three cucumber plants, very late and not expecting anything from them. But a little tour of the veg patch uncovered two cucumbers 🥳
- Lentil Chilli. A favourite recipe from an old $ain$bury$ cook book. There was enough for three meals, one of which has gone into the freezer.
- Halloumi & Quinoa Fattoush - using more homegrown cucumber 😁
- Pork Sausages Braised in Cider with Apples and Juniper with mashed potatoes and green beans. I used cooking apples from our orchard and diced rather than sliced them. The potatoes and green beans were from the veg patch. I think that will be the last of the fresh green beans although I have some left in the freezer. I find this recipe a bit time consuming so I made four meals, two of which have gone into the freezer.
We're going to treat today as a final full recovery day. I'm half way through a painting which I started two weeks ago that could do with my attention. I'm hoping my wet pallette is still wet. It's been in the fridge but they still dry out given enough time. I also want to make some alterations to some garments I've made. I tried a different way of hemming some trousers which I don't like so want to redo those and I made a mistake on the sleeves of a dress which I want to rectify. That should help me get back into the swing of sewing before I start my next garment. I've already got the fabric and notions for some cosy sweat pants to wear around the house this winter.
Mr F is having a lie in but I'm hoping he'll wake up soon as I'm getting hungry. I made a bacon and cheese loaf in the breakmaker yesterday and we're going to have some of that toasted for breakfast with a banana smoothie. It's a wonder there's any of it left frankly - it was so good we nearly ate the lot yesterday 😲
Hope everyone is dry and well.

Well, you are here and our MSE pal, so I think we are allowed to say that you are definitely the best 😁 In our house, I am definitely a martyr patient 🙄 Often won't rest when I need to 🙄 Mr Cheery is an excellent nurse, and rather bossy when it comes to making me rest, but if he's ill too we've got no chance - he's often both grumpy and weedy, and I take an attitude of 'fine, I suppose I'll have to do it all myself then' which doesn't really help anyone! Oh dear! 😂
These are just times we have to get through!
Glad you're feeling brighter now, and that there's no damage to your home. Our cellar regularly floods which is fine as we expect it and don't use it, but gosh, I can only imagine the calamity if it even got as far as the kitchen 🙄 How awful. Fire frightens me even more - probably because I've often lived on top of hills so it feels far more likely than flooding!
Are you back at all your groups now after being unwell? I often think of you and your little art nook 😊4
