My first house kitchen was designed with no drawers. I had to go shopping for a stand that i could put cutlery on and all cooking tools were kept in a plastic carry box in a cupboard. Worked but not ideal ( loved that house tho).

A suggestion - if the kitchen seems overwhelming at this point could you manage with just the sink and a cooker ? Do you know where they might go? And then just an old table for dumping stuff on until you have the head space for a kitchen?

oh I just had a thought. The kitchen here was designed by the most expensive independent kitchen/bathroom show room place. I went to it with the dimensions and asked what would work. I did not take PPH with me deliberately and they would not give me the plan/drawing to take away but they did give me a picture of what it could look like then I went outside and drew it on a scrap of paper and recreated it. Sadly PPH did not listen to me so some of the features they put in never did get recreated out of the cheap units but posh place did not charge for the design and afterwards I just rang and thanked them and said it had come in over budget and I would need a rethink. They gave me a lovely cup of tea and some very nice biscuits whilst the designer drew away. I did feel that I was wasting his time rather, but, I got the ideas and if the kitchen had not been over £20k who knows I might have considered it.

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

I did a new kitchen in my last house and in this house I am adding some more units and having new worktops so I feel your pain. This kitchen has only draws and they are great but with the new units I asked for standard cupboards as it will be used for fine china so draws not ideal. Anyway they had to redo the quote and it came in £800 cheaper just to have one double until changed to normal doors so it does affect the price quite a lot.

We used Howdens in the UK and our friend who is a carpenter they were great and allowed us to send things back that we did not need like extra trims and even the extractor which was horrid when it arrived.

Hope you get a break soon and it starts moving a bit smoother.

Dunno @beanielou we'll have to see what life and finances are and how we take to the area etc. We have to live there minimum three years or pay over 13k so definitely not moving out quick

Thanks all, some drawers will definitely be involved. Cheaper to get kitchen done now as building team will install it

I don’t want to push you bubby but getting someone out from Howdens or similar to do the suggested design is so helpful. They come out, quick measurements & then they design. You then visit the showroom to see a cad generated mock up. Get coffee & buns. Choose & that’s you. Something for every budget. I found it fab & so helpful

I appreciate the backside-kick @beanielou but that sounds like a logistics nightmare 😂 We have however begrudgingly booked a 90 minute (obligatory 90 minutes!) consultation online with Magnet early next week. We did not know who to book with and don't have time or energy to do several so we decided to reward the one that actually has a store near us, might as well do our bit to keep the high street alive, even if we're not attending there
