have you looked at diy kitchens? They do have a showroom but it’s near Oxford. Great choice of kitchens, appliances and worktops, good prices and not flat packed. Very good quality. Much better than howdens in my opinion. I chose ikea for mine a few years ago and have been more than happy with it. Ikea offered far more for the money than Howdens for us and gave us a much better layout in our very small kitchen. It’s so difficult to decide though as the choice is overwhelming!

    Cheers @beanielou and @Baileys_Babe

Thanks @cbsexec we have looked at them but are just so overwhelmed! And it seems impossible to buy a kitchen without having to book an appointment with someone. I don't want to 'consult on my design journey', I want to buy a few cupboards. If I have to talk to someone they should be paying me, not the other way round 😂

Often get calls as road has no numbers. I know I'm challenged on the left and rights - but astonished when a driver cannot figure it out ……

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

It is more depressing because you are saying to yourself - even that smaller one can't come at the agreed price..

I still remember trying to sort my new kitchen 35 years ago. Idiot designed it with full instructions on the actual kitchen & its ceiling. First words out of my mouth were - well that won't work because you have a unit where the ceiling comes down a foot. Eventually self designed & my father fitted & once he fitted something it stays fitted. I am just thinking of a replacement as quite a bit of the cupboards (near the back) are getting difficult for me to access so I would like deep drawers.

Deep drawers and a larder cupboard have improved my life immensely.

Also true @badmemory. Have done a couple more vinted listings 😂

That's interesting what you and @beanielou say, if we were designing at a leisurely pace then I would definitely try to factor in future-proofing and chronic pain condition but we just need something that resembles a bloody kitchen at this point.

And we're moving into a house where I'll have to go up and down stairs constantly anyway so drawers are clearly not going to be my main concern, though me and Mr PIP did admire the smooth action on some of the drawers in the showroom.

But this has lead to more doubt, as surely all drawers should have a smooth action, why are companies selling drawers with less smooth action, how can we possibly know which drawers have smooth action without visiting every single drawer in the country.

And this is why I no longer care what kitchen we get. I had limited interest in the first place and now I have significant minus ability to think about it

A question. Are you intending to stay in house longer term or just a while & then selling?
