Seconding the advice about a good quality extraction fan for keeping down mould. We’ve noticed a huge difference with ours along with full sheet panelling and mould proof / resistant paint. We are, I think 18 months on since changing our bathroom and I was just looking around the other day and there is still no mould 😊👏 (it was a perpetual battle before).

Hi PiP, I'm just adding my two pennorth's worth to people who have already said that they think you should take up that very generous offer of a loan & not feel bad about it. I think it has probably been offered out of a desire to help. You have good skills on the MSE front, so will be able to prioritise paying them back once everything's done & dusted. Onwards with the build.

Aw thank you @foxgloves, how kind to say I have good skills on the MSE front

Unfortunately I'm about to prove you wrong by asking a very dense question 😂

Did anyone else get the Nationwide flex regular saver issue 3 that is maturing around now?
If mine matures on the 9th November, do I put in the amount for November or is the interest only calculated on full months? I feel like I should be able to easily find or work out this information but alas my brain is disagreeing!

Mine ended on 18 October & the money goes in on the 6th so I ended with £2600.  Got interest on every penny for every day it was in before closure.  Opened my next one on the 20th & put in £200 & in Nov etc it will go in on the 6th

A bit late to the loan discussion but speaking as an elderly relative who can now offer help when needed it is a lovely feeling to be able to do it. Dont feel guilty it is a privilege to be able to help that I and I am sure your relatives enjoy the feeling.

Thanks @badmemory, I'll stick the remainder amount in then, and see what happens- hopefully extra interest for funding all the pots!

Thank you @ladyholly, I appreciate it. Feels a bit not the right way round for us to be taking money out of a pensioner's purse, but we will pay it back! And we're trying to remember that times change and that they bought their much larger home for several digits less than ours, so if they're secure and happy then as long as they're not putting that at risk then we need all the help we can get!

Just to weigh in on the loan thing …
It may well be that they’d actually like to get tangibly involved and help out decorating, wiring, laying tiles, laying slabs, etc but it’s just something they can’t do any more. This is their alternative option to support a special and beloved family member 😊

Re the flex saver, mine matured on 15 October but I still put in the usual amount on the 1st of the month. It wouldn't let me open a new account until the following day though.

With the flex saver you can make a 13th payment and you will receive interest on £2600. You can't open a replacement flex saver to the day after maturity, once open you can fund immediately and then again on the 1st of the following month.
    Example
    1st October - 13th payment paid in
    23rd October - account matures
24th October - new flex saver opened & funded
1st November - 2nd payment into the new flex saver
