Good tip, but it's more of a work-a-round instead of having a decent search function.Bridlington1 said:You can search within a specific thread. See:

I agree the search isn't the greatest does still have limitations. You can search for a quote by a specific forumite and search for a quote within a specific thread, but you can't do both simultaneously i.e. you can't search for a quote that was by me within this thread. I think if they could get this point sorted it would be a decent enough search function though.HillStreetBlues said:

The little dot on the right is the key. If there is one there are actual new messages. If it's absent then there are none. The redesign is still ugly and glitchy but is getting a bit more functional as the days go by.cymruchris said:maman said:I agree @Pollycat. Personally, I wouldn't want to as it needed an upgrade but I'd have expected a new version to be fit for purpose. This one is so full of bugs and requires so much additional navigation that it's tedious to use. ☹️Currently still quite tedious - I agree - but small steps forwards (it would have been nice to have had this 'tested' with a wide cross-section of forum users before launch - and I'm confident quite a number of these 'bugs' we've been dealing with would never have made it to the final cut - but there we are, we are where we are).On the plus side notifications on the bell appear to be better than they were, as they now include other threads other than this one. I still get a ridiculous number of 'new posts' for several threads that are obviously not new posts as per the attached pic where I'm told there are 1843 new comments on discussion: The Top Easy Access Savings......So - a small step forwards - but still ten steps behind where we were.

The thing is that, since the forum designers have coded for the presence or absence of the dot, they could have coded not to show "undotted" entries at all - or even just to alter the wording to "There are nnn older comments..."
Also annoying is that, when one comes to read new posts from a notification e-mail, the red dot on the bell does not disappear, even when you are reading the very topic which the bell thinks still has unread notifications! For it to disappear, one has to access the bell itself, and either re-open the topic, or mark all notifications as read.

Yep I know that 👍 but the magic coders should have it such that it doesn’t show that there 1800 new comments in a thread when there clearly aren’t any at all.MikeyPGT said:

Or what I'm experiencing, it just said there was one new comment here from you, so I clicked to visit and now that I have, that particular alert for the one post has been replaced by one that says there are 487 new comments in this thread. If I were to click on that it would take me back many pages of course. There used to be two drop downs for alerts - one for individual posts and another per thread, where the green dot used to occur if there were new posts. It seems that the combining of these two separate functions into a single drop down is what is causing the un-workable mish-mash of notifications.cymruchris said:

I'm trying very hard to be objective in my assessment of the changes, not just fall into the 'I don't like it, change it back' camp, but some of the irritations are becoming deal breakers for me, as they're functional, not just aesthetic. And that blasted drop down drives me scatty when I forget to allow for it. I must have been scrolling at the same time I moused over it yesterday and the damn thing got stuck in the middle of the screen for several page changes!0 -
Hi ... I stay logged in to the MSE forum on my laptop (Windows) and leave a tab or two open in a thread or board (atm I have 15 all purpose tabs in Chrome and 5 in Edge, I retain these). I close the browser before shutting/powering down and on reopening carry on from where I left off. I don't bother with bookmarks or checking 'latest' threads or posts.@frosch411 said:...
When I log into the forum via the app or website (via my mobile), there's an option to stay logged in.
Yet I don't think this is working well.
Changing from the forum to e.g. News, then back to the forum, I have to log back in with username and password.
Or even if logged in via the app, surely staying logged into the forum more permanently would be an option.
Thanks 👍🏼
This works well and have had no issues before or after the changes.
Edit: I just tried clicking on the 'news' and from there to the 'forum' this retained my login welcoming me again.2 -

Thanks for this feedback..maybe this is all optimised for computer use, not use on the app/mobile.dealyboy said:

I'll have to try myself how it is on the laptop but I tend to use the phone app most of the time.
Edit:
When I hit post just now, I must have also accidentally hit the back button as I was back to the log in page..I had to log back in manually.1 -
Although I wouldn't expect a rolling commentary in terms of updates - there's been no official progress posted since the 14th of July. It would be useful to find out where the forum is in terms of how they want it to be, what's still being worked on, what's never going to get changed, what's still on the 'nice to have' list - not necessarily 'we'll have it done by Thursday' - but at least a bit of a progress report.
