I'm with you @cymruchris - I think they'll do just as they did last time - invite comment and then largely disregard it, assuming that we'll soon stop moaning and just get used to it. But I think it's more serious this time, the functionality of the forum is compromised and it's not just about background colours etc.
@King_Mustard - I wasn't suggesting that you stopped alerts for all replies - but if you unchecked the "New comments on posts you participated in" box, but checked the box for "New comments on my bookmarked posts" - you'd then get emails for the threads you wanted - because you'd choose them by bookmarking which ones - and not ones you just posted in. Would that not work how you want?

That may be to be the workaround.
Thank you very much.1 -
I appreciate it doesn't resolve the issue directly but one possible workaround to stop getting email notifications from specific threads would be to filter off the threads you don't want to get notifications from by using your email provider itself.
I used to receive a fair few emails from credit karma pestering me to try their app out so I set up a rule in outlook so that if any email arrived from credit karma with the words "try our app" in their title or email it will mark the email as read and delete the email. I did the same with UberEats and their 40% off groceries offer at one point and it cut down on the number of unwanted emails enormously.
You could do the same for the threads you don't want to receive notifications from, i.e. set it so that if an email contains the name of a thread you're no longer interested in the email will be automatically marked as read and deleted so you won't actually see the emails from those threads.

The amount of workarounds being mentioned for everything is commendable (it genuinely is) - and shows how adaptive we are
but in the majority of instances, we shouldn't need workarounds in the first place! Yes I know it's free - and very much appreciate the resource, as do many that need support that visit the boards every day - but it would be nice to actually get something that is reasonable to use for the majority of people. (I also know you can't please all of the people all of the time and all that....)

@cymruchris
I've gotten use it the new site and find it usable, just wish I could adjust the colour. I have used many workarounds on main browser but left Chrome untouched. When I use Chrome to see if any changes have been made (I might not see any new changes on main browser due to setup) I know I couldn't have keep using the site without workarounds, and that just shouldn't be the case.
The issue isn't so much new posters, as many want help and will put up with it for the short time they use it. The main issue is losing the posters that are the helpers, who can not put up with it long term.

- I don't know of any other organization or operation as part of its change management would invite and publish feedback (and criticism)
- there is a survey page https://survey.alchemer.eu/s3/90589288/Feedback-on-the-new-Forum-look
Maybe the (hidden) reason is that they are waiting for the number of pages to get to 100(sorry that's three things).
Surely most organisations would be interested in what clients think. Isn't that what focus groups and opinion polls (and populist government) is all about?
a link to a survey asking for feedback. 🤔
it is the survey linked in the OP of this thread and allows responders to raise specific points and thus MSE can indirectly weight particular issues. Forumites are asking for a poll on certain aspects of the changes.
most organisations would be interested in what clients think
maybe they should be but I have found that many aren't after a major change.0 -
I think before any poll or requests users need to know what can or can't be done and what won't be done.
I do feel for the staff in trying to sort it out and the work it will take. Being a Sunday night I can't see anyone wanting to come in on a Monday morning and dealing with unhappy members of this forum and having to spend hours adjusting it, as at the moment it's mostly a thankless task.

They need a second forum thread.

At the end of the day, the forum team can see the raw numbers, we can't.
Members, post count and clicks etc.
If, by all these metrics, the site is still functioning "well", then they won't feel any need to make further adjustments.
If, however, they notice a drop-off, then they might take further action.
Is the site perfect, no. Is it workable, to get the information I need, on the stuff that matters to me, yes. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)2
