Today should be NSD 4. Bf is very worried about money - he is a freelance teacher so usually works separate jobs  over the summer hols to make ends meet, however this year a government teaching scheme that’s been running every summer for years hasn’t been approved right at the last minute and he is panicking he won’t have work July-sept.  (he has zero debt thankfully but has never had an EF - in fact im his EF which is fine for now but he does need to sort himself out) I am happy to be in a position to be able to help in some way (thanks to what I’ve learned on this forum!) but hopefully this will be a sort of LBM for him.

Just found out DH will be on half pay at the end of the month due to strike action and his employers being utterly unreasonable.

this mornings gratefuls

Lovely hot coffee and not having to rush out the door too early this morning.

Peace and time to reflect whilst drinking said coffee as everyone is either still in bed or off out to work

New beautiful hanging baskets to brighten up the front door and a few pots out the back

HM lemoncurd ~ its deliicous. I am gratefull i made the time to make some this year, it really is worth it

Needed to do this this morning as feeling rather flat and deflated, but I do have so much to be thankfull for. Now to get ready for work and earn some pennies

Gosh f0xh0les this is so sobering to read. I'm sorry it's gone this far and still not resolved. I'm not allowed to strike so not au fait with how things work - are the unions providing hardship funds etc?

Shrewbie and f0xh0les - I hope the financial situations get sorted soon. It's a worry but I have every confidence that you'll both adapt.

Best wishes for Mr Thrifty Taylor. You've both been through such a lot with his illness. Hopefully he'll be feeling better soon. xxx

Some universities  will make 100% deduction if there is so much as 1 day of strike action in the month.  So we are not in the worst situation, but still it is a rotten approach. They are striking for better pay and permanent contracts for the early careers and part time lecturers  - DH would be less than £1k better off, but it will make a huge difference to the new staff and assistance people. He would not touch the hardship fund as it is not huge and there are people who will rely on it for rent and food.
The French seem to go about these things in the right way.🤔🤔 Solidarity ✊✊

My DS is slightly different. 

Has just finished post grad in teaching but won’t start until August. 

So no income meanwhile.

Personally, I think the media are focusing so much on the financial aspect of strikes that they are ignoring the terms and conditions part. Both Himself and I worked for the Post Office at one time (when it was the Post Office and not Royal Mail, Parcelforce, BT, Post Office Counters and whatever else they are calling themselves these days). The stories we hear from our postie would turn your hair grey. And I am absolutely sure that it applies to lots of other sectors as well.
