Belated birthday wishes @f0xh0les, one more trip around the sun 🌍🌞
Counting it as a NSD today on the expectation that I catch up on my work expenses this weekend. er, Where have you heard that before?
Slept very badly last night in work hotel, so much building work going on on a road nearby (HS2) that I moved rooms twice, and slightly grotty not quite clean sort of place. A good reminder that when paying my own £ for hotels, it's definitely not wasted money to go a band or two above this chain!
Did have a reasonable breakfast and stashed a croissant in my (packed for this very reason) ziplock bag, which I consumed for my dinner on the evening train home. A great lunch at the conference and time to eat it too! Cleared quite a few 'must do's' in a break but most excitingly caught up with lots of lovely academics that I used to work with much more often than I do now. I am writing a chapter for a book with one of them over the next 6 months - a first for me. Very exciting. My input went ok, it's been a long time since face to face big venues, but nerves stayed sort of under control.
Did a bit of money jig between accounts to make sure I get the NatWest reward, need to automate that really but have been all a bit close to the line in current accounts as I get the money into the right place for the solicitors fees and stamp duty. Still a week or so to payday and daunting that after this lot of wages I'll have 2 mortgages to pay for a while.
I am tired. Got home fairly recently, don't feel at all inclined to be at work for 9 tomorrow morning online. Am WFH all day tomorrow, then off on the train again on Weds am for another 24 hour trip. Disappointed to be away from the sea on solstice, will have to try to swim on Fri or Sat to make up for it.
Have done my exercise planning for the week so am aware what I can fit in. It's so hard to incorporate into the travel days, I can see why I put on weight when I travelled all the time for work. Mind you, the strength training at the gym is helping me carry my mini suitcase with relative ease when faffing around on tubes and train staircases so that's a positive!
Hope all are well, will catch up with your news over the next day or so! x8 -

Good news late last night that wage deduction starts In July - so it will be normal pay end of this month. I have work in July and that should fill most of the gap.
Thank you for your birthday wishes. Much appreciated.

Sorry for my absence. The internet keeps having a wobble and I've had a few myself. I had lots of lovely Wellbeing Wednesday quotes last week and then realised it was Thursday and I've been slightly out of flunter ever since (flunter is an old English dialect word which means the loose ends of a piece of rope - I was unaware of any other definitions until just now).
My foot is getting stronger, I am getting things done every day but atm it seems like a drop in the ocean and the kitchen is driving me to despair. There have been several days when I've come downstairs early with the intention of getting on with things but sometimes it takes me hours to get to the point of doing something - or lots of little things get done/ moved on a stage but then when I get back upstairs I realise I didn't do a particular task.
However today I have been out adventuring. It is 8 days since I went out so after multiple nudges I got going. Took books back to the library then carried on to the GPO to post a survey and send the letter I wrote to a friend in the IOM. Launched myself across town to HB (finally reopened). Looked in the window of the new cs (for the children's hospice) but did not go in. Ditto Oxfam (having a 99p sale).
Went round HB but not down every aisle, only the ones I wanted to look over (children's garden tools, outdoor stuff, garden bits - too many gnomes). The food section has expended (think they've taken over a long empty property) and now includes a refrigerated section and a few freezers. Think the 'deli' section has many of the things the wading bird shop has so I did a little stock up (got everything I would have bought in 3 other shops). Extras included an A5 academic diary and a soft grip can opener (so can make inroads on the remaining can stash).
My ankle was throbbing by the time I got out so no more detours, just home by the quickest route. I had taken 2 ordinary plastic bags out - one went on the walker so I could sit down and the other was used on wet benches. As soon as I reached the car park I stopped to rest and as I had drinks, sandwiches and snacks, I decided to have a little picnic, gazing up at the Pete Shelley mural. There's an awkward corner just inside the entrance and they very wisely decided not to attempt to squeeze 2 parking spaces in it, settling for one set at an angle, leaving ample space for a walker or 2.
Got in, put some things away in the fridge and brought the rest upstairs (I did go and sit on the couch with a drink and my book but then realised I still had my outdoor glasses on and couldn't read). I've cleaned my mask and hose thoroughly and have made an appointment so a few things ticked off the list
Happy belated birthday f0xh0les and all good wishes to those undergoing treatment and their worrying spouses. Grateful for getting things done, resting my ankle (still aching) and good books and films8 -
Got a day off today as the radiotherapy machine is being serviced.
Himself and I went for a walk through the park and put my repeat prescription request into the doctors' surgery. Bought a few things that I needed toiletry wise. I've actually got lots but I need something non perfumed and very gentle. Chicken in the oven for dinner and a small glass of something sparkly to cool me down. xxxx
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.8 -
Blood test done, shopping done, and I went into the shop that I work in a couple of days a week to see if my space needed more stock. Decided it can wait till Thursday when I have to go to work anyway!I then cleaned the large internal window between the lounge and the conservatory, both sides, and cleaned the conservatory too while I was at it. It looks loads betterI have put a load of washing in, that will hopefully be able to go out tomorrow.Heard back from a potential new window cleaner, as our original one seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. The veggie tarts I made the other day with slightly OOD puff pastry, veg bits from the fridge and freezer and a bit of grated cheese worked really well. We had some for dinner with salad, but there is a lot left for other meals.Other than that, I have walked the dog, picked a few strawberries and raspberries, and done loads of washing up, as usual. I am trying to avoid using the dishwasher unless absolutely necessary.Quite pleased with that, as I have been feeling a bit sluggish for the last week or so, and struggling to get motivated.8

Was working at another event for my job today. It was an outdoor event so there was a concern that the clouds would burst, but it stayed sunny, and as I write this the clouds have just burst.
I thought there was free parking at the venue... I was wrong! Thankfully my 6 hour parking fee of £14 was reimbursed by our finance guy who was at the event and came prepared. Very efficient actually - he said he didn't want a pile of emails about expenses flooding his inbox tomorrow.
The event itself went really well, lovely sunny day, good turnout, and excellent food. I filled up on the delicious food so that I didn't need to make dinner tonight. OH is out and DS was fed at Mum's.
Grateful today for the weather staying dry, for getting a quick refund on my parking charges, for not having to make a dinner, for Mum looking after DS, for the relaxing sounds of rain and thunder, and for a quiet evening to do whatever I want (which is to go to bed early)
