  • Book review for Fordhall Farm By Ben and Charlotte Hollins

This book is very emotional. Especially about their dad dying I won't tell you to much though. There are also good moments aswell. This book is about two farmers who battle through to buy a farm so they can run it themselves.

My favourite word is succeed because it means to do it to complete it by passing.
I read this book because my mum bought it on the Internet. I think this book is readable for anyone but can be hard to understand for younger readers. I hope this helps bye!!!

  • Book Review for South by South East by Anthony Horowitz

This is one of the bigger books in the Diamond brothers series. When a complete stranger offers Tim a load of money for his coat it looks like their luck is in but looks can be deceptive. When they find him dead outside things only get worse. They find out he worked for MI6 and everything turns into a fully blown riot.

My favourite word is Horror because it describes scary and frightening and sometimes gory and I like these things.

I read this book because it was one of the books mum bought me for xmas. I think this book is for 9+ years. Thank you for reading bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Book Review for Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz

I think this was personally Alex’s most challenging mission. After Yassen says go to Venice, Find Scorpia, Find your Destiny. When there is a school trip to Venice it seems like the perfect opportunity to find out who or what Scorpia is. You will have to read the book to find out what happens. The best bit was when he tries to kill Mrs Jones but doesn’t know about the bullet proof glass because they go through all the plans and everything and don’t know about the glass.

My favourite word is action because it describes things going on and sometimes fighting and gunfire. I think this book is for around 10+ years.

    THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done Hawkrider - you worked very hard to get these book reviews done today. In addition to the first £10 to reach your new bank account, you have earned a trip to Burger King (BOGOF vouchers given to him by a friend). And yes, you may ask your school pal to join you. How about Monday?

Threadhead. Gosh. I read your 'The Boy in Striped Pyjamas'. To say any more would spoil the reading experience. I have no idea how Hawkrider will write about it. Very thought provoking. Some books stay with you a long while after, don't they?

Hawkrider had a scholarship exam for school earlier this week. We won't know the result for ages, but he had to do a piece of creative writing from a choice of titles. From what he says about it, he seems to have used some great adjectives, and even some complex sentences (unheard of for lazy fella!) I'm sure these books are helping him enormously. He is more descriptive too when telling us about his day at school, so that's great.

    Goodnight all!
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Fantastic thread - really good idea, Whitewing.

Well done for picking up the challenge, Hawkrider, and I can see you're going to succeed in style - impressed by your progress so far. :T

I've been an avid reader as long as I can remember - ranks right up there with breathing, as far as I'm concerned.

A few MSE'rs have recommended the CS Lewis Narnia tales (at 42 I still class these as some of my favourite books of all time) - but a good book is rather like Lewis's Wardrobe : a door to a whole new world.

Don't know if you've come across Kenneth Oppel's 'Airborn' (and sequel, 'Skybreaker') - good reader recommendations on Amazon and I really enjoyed them, fantasy / alternative reality style and plenty of action, as well as very descriptive and imaginative. The main character is a teenage boy.

If I think of others I'll let you know - sounds like you're getting plenty of suggestions to go on with in the meantime, though !

I look forward to reading for myself some of the books you're reviewing for us, Hawkrider.
  • Hi Hawkrider and Whitewing

Yes, you can't really say much about that book without spoiling it

Looking forward to reading your review.

  • Hello there

I've just found this thread and I love it - what a great idea. :D

My brother is a keen reader, but he gets stuck in a rut every so now and again, so we try to find new books and authors for him. He loves the Horowitz books too, and likes it when there is a series of books featuring the same characters. I wanted to recommend the following for your list from our experiments:

The Jonathan Stroud trilogy, starting with the Amulet of Samarkand. These are about a boy called Nathan and a very rude and badly behaved genie (spelled Djinnii) called Bartimaeus. They are very exciting - there are lots of things wrong with Nathan's world that he and Bartimaeus have to tackle, but they are also very, very funny. Someone I worked with recommended them, because her 8 year old son loved them - my brother, who is 15, did as well and so did I. I stayed up until 3am reading the last one and I'm 33! You can get the first book for 56p plus P+P from amazon and I'm sure that your library will have it.

If you like adventurous stories with a bit of humour, the Charlie Higson Young Bond books come with a big old thumbs up from my brother too. The first in the series is Silverfin.

The last recommendation in this post has to be for Holes by Louis Sachar. Another big favourite of my brothers, and it looks great.

Actually, I also have to speak up for the Phillip Pullman trilogy, starting with The Northern Lights/The Golden Compass. Just really really exciting and involving books, I can't think of anyone who wouldn't enjoy them. Even my grumpy 60 year old Dad thinks that they are great!

Good luck - and have a fabulous time with all the great stories that you will be reading. :j

  • Book Review for Public Enemy Number Two

This book is a very gripping and exciting. When Nick is framed for robbery and is sent to Strangeday Hall (a detention centre for young offenders) to try and find out the identity of a master criminal, everything gets worse and worse and even worse. The best bit is when he is in the detention centre and is sharing a cell with Johnny Powers who is gradually going mad.

My favourite word is jailbird because it describes a person who is imprisoned a lot. I think this book is for 9+ years.

Hope this is useful BYE BYE!!

  • Book Review for Freaky Peaks By Anita Ganeri

This book is a very informative book. It is all about mountains and hills. It includes information that is perfect for homework and schoolwork and is also perfect if you just want to increase your knowledge. It also includes some quizzes. My favourite bit are the teachers quizzes.

My favourite word is plummet because it describes a sudden drop. I think this book is for 8+ years.

    Thanks for reading Bye
