I even managed to finish When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr yesterday sitting in front of a roaring coal fire. It is absolutely brilliant, describing how a young German girl and her family were forced to flee Germany because her father was a renowned writer who had been against the Nazis before they came to power.Filiss0

Book review for Snakehead by Anthony Horowitz
This is the best book I think I've ever read:j ! This is exactly the kind of book I love, it is full of excitement and adventure. It is about a teenage boy named Alex Rider who is recruited by the Australian secret service and follows is mission to penetrate the worlds most dangerous criminal organisaton called Snakehead.
My favourite is when he escapes from a hospital into the middle of the Australian rainforest, you will have to read the book to see why. My favourite word is b********* because it describes getting really told off really really told off.
I think this book is for ages of around ten up but younger children can also read it. I read this book because I like the Alex Rider series and my mum bought it for me from school.
I hope you find all this helpfull :question:and thanks for reading :cool2: :cool2::cool: I am 11 years old:cool:Hawkrider123's money saving 2008 book reading challenge #1:T Earnt £12 out of a possible £366 :T0 -
Hawkrider,
Well done on earning your third pound! I am glad to see you using some punctuation in your book reviews.
Don't forget that we have had a discussion about your favourite word from Snakehead. I do not want you to use that word as it may be offensive to many people. I realise that you did not know that it is - what granny would call - a rude word. You now know what (taboo) means in the dictionary. I am surprised, and disappointed, that the word appeared in a book for children. I was also surprised that MSE allowed you to type it in anyway, so I have got you to edit it out.
I hope you enjoy your next Anthony Horowitz book, and then you are going to try a Lemony Snicket, aren't you?
Well done on your reading so far. I am glad that you are enjoying the stories, and that you are taking your book with you when you visit your uncles.
I am reading another of the War books, Blitzcat by Robert Westall. I think you will like this story.
Love you!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Dear Hawkrider and Whitewing
Thank you very much for this thread, it's re-ignited my memories of the books I read as a child [that was a VERY long time ago!:rotfl:] I bought the Alex Rider books for my boy too, but that was a while ago - he's now 19 - and I really enjoyed reading them too.
I'll confess, when I'm ill in bed with a rotten cold, I read Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, Terry Pratchett [not too much as he makes me laugh so much I cough until I go blue:rotfl:] and it makes me feel so much better. I have even been known, when feeling really bad, to read Enid Blyton!
Thank you, and well done to both of you.
all the best

Hello Hawkrider and Whitewing
My name? It's Welsh for Red Dragon, our national symbol.
What are you reading now? I'm reading a spy thriller, Spy Hook at the moment. I tend to have one "fun" book, two "fact" books, like cookery or house/home, and an awful lot of threads online to readIf you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
Book review for The Falcon’s Malteser BY Anthony Horowitz
This is another action book and I found it really enjoyable. It is about two brothers called Tim and Nick Diamond (you will need too read the book to find out the real names) who’s parents have left to go to Australia. They stayed at home in London and set up a detective agency. They are then given a box of maltesers with the key to 3.5 million pounds worth of diamonds. Then the person who gave them the package is dead they get the blame and all the crooks in town are out to get them.
My favourite bit is when someone has already taken the diamonds and sends them a diamond inside a big malteser. My favourite word is deduction because it describes taking away.
I think this book is for around 9-10 + years. I read this book because it was a book mum bought for me.
I hope this is helpful and thanks for reading!!!!!!!!

Book Review for Skeleton Key by Anthony Horowitz
I think that this is one of the not so good books in the Aex Rider series. It isn't as good as the others because the start of the book is quite boring compared to the start of some of the other books. It is still a very good book though. It is about Alex Rider (you will know all about him from my other book reviews) as he stops a former russian general blowing up a nuclear bomb to regain himself power. Alex goes to the island where the general lives with other CIA agents so they can get into the island unnoticed but he gets mixed in with it aswell.
My favourite word is colonnade which means a series of evenly spaced columns.
I think this book is for 9-10 plus. I read this book because it was one of the books my mum got me for Christmas.
Thank you for reading my review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 11 years old:cool:Hawkrider123's money saving 2008 book reading challenge #1:T Earnt £12 out of a possible £366 :T0 -
if you can get hold of a copy, i thoroughly recommend a book called catweazle (your parents may remember it, is used to be a TV series).
i remember my teacher reading it to the class when i was in year 6, and i have read it time and taime and since then! (i am now 22!)
i also really enjoyed goodnight mr tom and the secret diaries of Adrian Mole, althogh they might be a little bit too old for you at the mo.
happy reading!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
