DG :hello:
Do! I can't recommend this book enough - it's really good.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Whitewing - what a lovely polite boy hawkrider is. You must be proud!:jThreadhead0

hawkrider- just a quick question - how many books have you read since the beggining of the challenge .... i love reading books me but find working gets in the way and just dont get the time - i really hope this challenge fires up your love of the written word!!!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Threadhead,
Thank you for your lovely comments. I am very proud of him. He is a very good boy. (He does have a mischievous streak though, if case you are all thinking he's too good to be true! He has an impeccable sense of timing. I got up at 6am the other week to do some work I was behind on. A few minutes into it, I went into the kitchen to make a cup of tea. I came back and got very absorbed into my work. And about 10 minutes later, something wrapped itself firmly around my legs and held on while I screamed. He'd hidden under the table, covered with the tablecloth, while I was in the kitchen, and then patiently waited for ages for maximum effect. He was so pleased with himself all day!)
Sillyvixen, he has read and reviewed 12 books - probably more than in his entire life (excepting factual books which aren't part of the challenge). It's already making a big difference to his own writing, use of language (he's becoming more confident and more descriptive), and his ideas and awareness of differences between people.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
World Book Day today at school for Hawkrider. They could dress up as their favourite character from a book. He has such a lazy streak...he went in his normal casual clothes...as an autobiography...:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Seriously, it may not be just laziness, DS1 really hated dressing up. Wish I'd thought of sending him as an autobiography though! That's just inspired!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
He did used to hate dressing up but he's okay about it since he started at this school. Has much more self confidence.
It may not have been so much 'laziness', just 'lastminute-itis', he's not bothered enough about dressing up to spend more than 10 seconds planning it!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Truly a work of genius - autobiography! rotfl! Hawkrider, I salute you.
The only other person I can bring to mind with a similarly brilliant school dressing up/heroes character is Wednesday Addams - she went as a psychopath, "They look just like everyone else" -- teehee [shudder!]
I also adore the Addams Family, having watched it whilst I was a child - Wednesday or Morticia are some of my inspirations! ;-)
Well done on the books, Hawkrider and I hope that you're enjoying your rewards.
Whitewing, what an interesting and inspirational idea. Please accept my congratuations and admiration.
DGIf you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!0 -
Hi Hawkrider
Just seen your challenge and love what you are doing. At your age I think my mum would have paid me NOT to read as she had difficulty to get me to do anything else like chores/talk to her. Hopefully you’ll soon get to the stage where your mum is paying you to do something you really enjoy.
I’m now 40 and hate the idea of being with out a book.
I’ve got a couple of suggestions for you
The Borribles Trilogy by Michael De Larrabeiti - Although this is a children’s book I first read it a few years ago and loved it. I have also passed it on to (adult) friends who felt the same. If you do read it remember it’s a trilogy so it counts as three books!
The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien – A classic and just right for your age
Good luck with the challenge and happy reading0 -
hey hawkrider!
have you stopped reading?????Threadhead0
