I don't very often make cornish pasties, but I do make bacon & cheese pasties.
I usually fry off some bacon, onion & mushrooms. Then fill shortcrust pastry circles with some of the bacon mixture & add some grated cheese. Bung in the oven for about 20 mins! Yummy.0 -
I have made some pasties today and they were really nice.
Used 1 pkt of minced beef.2 medium potatoes, 2 carrots,2 onions and a handful of frozen peas.
Fried the mince then rinsed with boiling water (to remove the fat)
Diced all the veggies and boiled them all together. Then drained them.
Mixed it all together and added 1 oxo cube, some chilli powder, some garlic granules, S&P.
Made 4 large ones and 6 small ones.
My biggest expense was the frozen pastry which was on offer at TESCO £1.69  . I have used all this pastry and found that it wasn't particularly nice (a bit sweet) so i will be looking for recipies for this next  Please.
Estimated total cost.
Pastry £1.69
Mince £1.05
veggies 30p
seasoning 5p
Total cost = £3.09
If i had made my own pastry maybe i would have got this down to £1.50
I have really enjoyed making them today aswell which was relaxing after a tedious day at work. So i'm a happy bunny,
one of my chickens has laid it's first egg today aswell BONUS ! :j0 -
oh well done! HM pasties and your first egg! Who had the egg? My family would have fought over this! :rolleyes:Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

catznine wrote:I wonder how "oggys pasties" get away with it? This cornish pastie shop used to sell the most amazing pasties with many different fillings, curried chicken were my favourites and my dd loved the blackberry and apple ones. They did sell the original ones as well tho.
I know - I guess when they're a shop that ONLY sells pasties, they have to have a bit of a repertoire!!! They're a franchise around the UK now, started in Cornwall, still a Cornish guy at the helm I understand. My brother was over the MOON when they got one in Norwich!!!
My main gripe with pasty places is that as a veggie, all I want is a normal pasty without the meat!!! But can they do it? No, they have to add cheese, or peppers, or curry, or sweetcorn!!! I like all those things, but I just want a normal one sometimes!!! :wall:0 -
So make yer own!

I've found 2 in Essex :j so very happy. Thanks Loadsabob! Sorry Squeaky I know I could make my own and do on occasions but oggys pasties are really lovely!

Hi Catznine - I couldn't be sure, without asking them. At one time they told me that all the pastry was made with vegetable fat. I've never actually had a fruit one! Seems weird to me, but I bet they're nice! I'm glad you've found two near you!0 -
Ann's Pasties on the Lizard make the best pasties ever! I wanted to make some HM pasties, but my dad (who is a very proud Cornishman) told me I wasn't allowed to call the 'Cornish' pasties beacuse I wouldn't have made them in Cornwall. Bless him!
My recipe is potato, swede, onion and lots of salt and pepper.0 -

Hi Squeaky - yes, they're on my list of "must-makes", but they're the one thing you can get in this town when you're caught out over a Saturday lunchtime...and I smell the gorgeous smells of them wafting out of the bakeries and shops, reminding me of my childhood, and what I actually end up with is something filled with cheese sauce...and it's a gamble what veg will actually be in there!!!
It's SO unfair!!! (Kevin-style strop!...)0 -
Caught out? Foodless? Bad planning. Ba-a-a-a-ad planning!
