I use my panny all the time to make pizza dough and i can`t think of any reason why it wouldn`t work for pasties. Maybe they wouldn`t take so long to cook - don`t know why i think this, i just do :D

I think that i`ll give it a try myself next time i`m making some, i love pasties and our recent cornish holiday meant that i now have a pasty belly lol so a healthier option appeals to me too.:D

Good Food magazine often has recipes for pasties made with pizza dough (they usually use a pack of pizza base mix). Just checked one and it says oven 220c/200 fan/gas 7. Brush with foil and bake 15-20 mins.:)

Aren't they called calzone if they're made with pizza dough?

If you have a sandwich toaster, you can use bread and just fill with cooked pasty filling.
To make them look a bit more appetizing, you can spread the outside with marg but if you are looking to the healthy option ,you needn't bother, as all it does is make them look more golden when cooked.
I have used pastry in a sandwich toaster before but not tried with raw pizza dough.

I did think that they were only called calzone if they were filled with traditional pizza type filling but it seems that there are many similar variations across the globe. The Italian pizza filling is the genuine model and then there are many more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calzone
