Hi All,
Thanks to the good peeps on OS, I now make all the bread for the family (well, oh & ds!) as they prefer it to shop bought. My bm broke on Tuesday though but a new one is on its way.
Anyway, back to my question. I made some pasties the other day with not very os ready rolled pastry and some cheese & ham. I didnt put enough of the cheese & ham in though & the pasties were very flat.
Do any of you have any good pastie recipes that are quick & easy to make? Also, this might be a daft question - how is best to stop the pastry sticking to the tin/sheet??? Are the silicone baking liners/sheets any good?
Thanks in advance all
Donna

You need to grease your baking tray well to stop the pastry sticking.
If you make cheese and ham pasties again, try putting a little mashed potato in as filler and use two cheeses. The ones like Wensleydale, Caerphilly and Cheshire will keep their shape, while the ones like Cheddar, Double Gloucester and Red Leicester will melt away to nothing.
Quick and easy is corned beef and onion with a little mashed potato in for a change from the usual meat and veg. Or use thick slices of potato cooked slightly to line the bottom of the pastry and top it with mashed corned beef with cooked onions before you close the top. The list of fillings must be endless, I'm sure there will be lots of replies soon for you.

I`ve not made them myself (yet) but i`ve seen several posts where people have made a big pan of stew and used this as filling for pasties.
Sounds nice!

It may not be to your taste but in the 70's when I was growing up my Mum used to make pasties with cooked chopped potato, carrot, onion & chunks of corned beef :money: She cooked the pots & carrots & just cut the corned beef & onion up before mixing it all together, put it onto saucer sized pastry rounds, folded it up and baked in the oven until the pastry was cooked. I used to love them with baked beans & tomato sauce0
