  • All makes sense Keedie. I do still have my spreadsheet so I will make firm plans during 'Twixt-mas' and then I will be ready for the new year.

Today is another NSD for me, last minute tidying and I have filled my hand made crackers for hosting on boxing day... I'm now covered in glitter so next stop is the shower :D  Hubby is working until 6pm today so it will probably be some dinner followed by a Christmas film this evening, and maybe a baileys before bed.

I've made my PAD, which included £5 to the sabbatical and £9.01 to the sealed pot from Prolific, there's nothing left pending now so I need to keep an eye out for new studies.

That's all from me today, I hope you all have a lovely Christmas eve.

Thanks AntoMac I hadn’t thought of it like that but you’re spot on. 2023 was definitely a turning point for me financially.

  • Good morning and Merry Christmas 🎄 I hope you all have lovely days.

Today Will be a NSD for me, we have a full day planned and I have no desire to browse the online sales… I’ve already had some wonderful and very thoughtful gifts for Christmas and I feel very spoiled.

True to form I have made my PAD of £5 to the sabbatical fund. That’s it in terms of finances, all seems well.

Enjoy today and the rest of the festive period

    Happy Christmas 🎄
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Well, we are in that twixtmas period where nobody seems to know what day it is and we are all fed up of eating and drinking... It was hubby's birthday yesterday so we were out with friends for another meal and drinks last night. I am still eating leftovers for lunches too!

I hope everyone has had a nice Christmas? We have booked to go to a dinner dance on NYE, unusual for us as we never normally go out for New Year. I think the last time was 2011 and we were still home before midnight.  The tickets were expensive but the menu looks nice.

In terms of finances, I have now balanced the accounts and updated my budget so I will update my signature shortly.  I think I will take Keedie's advice and set the sabbatical target at monthly increments, starting with £3000 for month 1 and so on. It will be less overwhelming that way.

Today is a NSD for me, last night was very expensive so I am looking forward to a few days without spending. My NSD target for January is 22, which I am hoping I can achieve as I shouldn't need much.  My PAD this morning included £5 to the sabbatical too.

That's all from me, I see there has been some new members to my monthly savings challenge so I'm heading over there to allocate numbers next. :)

    Have lovely days ahead

I think having incremental targets for the sabbatical is definitely the way to go. As you reach each milestone you get a sense of achievement and it's easier to celebrate as you go. There's nothing wrong with running a marathon, but sometimes you just need the high of completing a sprint race.

I agree, trying to do 10x the EF target seemed like a bit of a mountain to climb. Have set to £3k and will see what else I can throw at it in the New Year.

I have my EF set at £1K, but will keep going once I get there as the plan is to get it up to £5 or £6K

  • I'm late again today but I've been busy as there's no rest for the wicked. Hubby asked this morning when we are taking down the decorations (he's conveniently on night shift) but I'm not fed up with them yet so they'll stay a bit longer!  I had to put them up on my own, I'm not taking them down solo too...

Finance wise, it's just £5 to the sabbatical this morning. It's also a NSD for me as the weather is pants and I have no plans to spend until Sunday.  I was full of a head cold when I woke up this morning which I am trying to tackle ASAP so we can enjoy NYE now that we have spent so much on the tickets.

That's about it, I did one survey on Prolific last night but it's still quiet on there for me. I also can't decide what to spend my Christmas money on, I think last year most of it ended up in my sealed pot!  I'm just so reluctant to spend on 'stuff' these days.  Old habits die hard
