Me too :) We are already in North Wales and have stopped for some breakfast before heading south to mid wales. The weather is awful but we will make the most of it.

It’s pay day today, so lots of money has been moved about, £3 to the EF and the August penny challenge money has been added to the sealed pot. I’ve also added £600 to savings for now. Final payment for November holiday is due this month and I also need spending money for my August holiday. Less than 4 weeks now 😊

I hope everyone is doing ok?  Needless to say my weekend will be very spendy haha

  • Good morning MSEers, I’ve had a wonderful sleep in this morning and a leisurely breakfast before we head out for the day.

Definitely not another NSD today but I think spending will be relatively low anyway, considering we are away. I’ve sent £3 to the EF as standard though.

Happy Friday to you all, have a great day

Mid Wales is also my sweet spot when it comes to Wales LMD. Aberystwyth is what I save in the Sealed Pot for.
We had Welsh relatives in the South. My great great Uncle was a miner. They had very little - outside toilet, mantle lighting, no mod cons etc. They always made us so welcome  and nothing was too much trouble for them. My Mum and my Auntie have such great memories from their childhoods and into their adult lives. Whenever I can I take them across the bridge as I swear it makes them 30 years younger. Although the relatives are long gone we found the family grave so they can put down flowers….. and do very bad Welsh accents as they recreate old conversations with their beloved great aunt and uncle  :D
There was a real kindness and humility in that community. The whole row of cottages always made them feel so much at home. They remember all of the neighbours and local characters.
Uncle Alb did how own dentistry with a knife!! I remember him as a very gentle softly spoken man who coughed all the time due to his life underground - but he must have been hard as nails.
Anyway, how’s that for a digression on your diary!? Enjoy your time there. I’m imagining some typically ‘fresh’ Welsh weather! You can’t beat it

  • Oh AntoMac, what a lovely digression that is though :) such lovely memories for you and your mum and auntie. We have just arrived back home and been reunited with the dog, he doesn't seem to have missed us as much as we missed him haha!

We visited Aberystwyth yesterday afternoon and had a lovely coffee-stop in the town centre after a brisk walk along the sea front. Then it decided to rain sideways so we skedaddled back to the hotel. Despite the rain and sometimes fog (even in July!) the landscape is just so beautiful you can't help but fall a little bit in love.

Now, the reason we were there... we are looking for a place to buy a holiday rental property close to Cadair Idris to use ourselves when we have the time but mainly to invest for our retirement. I was surprised at how quickly we got to the coast from our base in a little village called Corris too so it seems the little towns around there would be ideal.  This is our plan now that the debts are gone, well it will be once hubby's got rid of the last of his.

On the finance front, £3 sent to the EF this morning and having not spent as much whilst we were away as I had envisaged, I've popped £200 to the savings just now too.

Think you're all up to speed now :D:D
Hope you're all enjoying your weekends

Oh wow, what a lovely place to buy a retirement place. Good luck with it all.
