Tuesday ...Still going strong ..Apart from one slip any way ..
I drank 3 cups of camomile tea last night ...Slept like a log ...I'll maybe try that again tonight ...
I do feel more alert ....I've even took a sideways glance at the old exercise machine that waits expectantly for another spin ....On second thoughts ..Including exercise into my new body regime may send it into some kind of permanent spazm That I never quite recover from ...I best take it easy ...
Hello Notapenny...Off to grout my bathroom (or at least the half I couldn't reach earlier)

I've just realised that this is my 9th day and I am feeling better for it. I kept busy last night so the craving for wine went away and tonight I actually feel a lot more relaxed. Hope it lasts!!

  • I'd like to tie this one in my with other "go without xyz in 2008" if I may, although booze is cheap here I've been having way too much. So far in 2008 I've had one glass of wine (the bf bought it yay) and 2 2.5% Becks with lemonade things (New year's Eve).

Since then I've been very good, and last wkd I even had my first booze fre weekend in Germany, which is easier said than done...for example you can buy a bottle of supermarket beer here for 20p, (and they have laws about what the beer can be like, so you know it is beer!)

I hope to feel a lot better for it in a couple of weeks, even if it does mean being labelled a miserable boring cow by my mates here teeehee! Ive also given up vuying diet coke (as it's not the same here and bloody dear), and that's my 'treat' on nights out, the rest of the week I drnk water, watered down juice, tea or herbal tea, and one coffee a day.

  • Evening all! Sipping water & managed not to drink at book group last night! Want to keep not drinking until the next one a month away. I KNOW I'll feel better for it as I didnt drink at all for 6 month last year. Not doing as well on smoking but being gentle on myself...it will come. DIRE to know that a bottle is a binge as it seemed almost wrong to laeve it 1/2 full lol!

    Morning all- Day 9.

Did well last night despite going round to sisters who sat there with her cigarettes and (nice) bottle of rose wine ! Didn't give in though.

Friday may be a bit of a problem- my best friend wants to go out (we were supposed to be going to a body shop party but its cancelled) so now we are going out for a drink instead. May drive.. or may give in..... what to do?

Don't want to have a drink though as am doing so well, don't want to break it!

I know my "January" started later than most of you. (OH working abroad, was around until 6th so didn't want to make the last week more pressured) but please can you tell me when I will wake refreshed in the morning? I have overslept twice already this week (It's only Wednesday for goodness sake!). I now have trouble getting to sleep, and then trouble waking. Surely alcohol wasn't having that big an effect???? :o
  • Day 9 ...... did OK last night, managed to avoid a lovely warming glass of FREE port..... and went round for an hour to some friends who have just purchased an air hockey table OH had 3 beers I managed to refrain - hurrah!!! (and we won the match!!) What a fab way to spend an evening surprised how energetic it could be and violent!! Great way to release 'non drinking pent up energy'!!

Going to OH's parents for tea tonight and they always open a bottle of red in my honour, the disappointment on their faces if I refuse a glass..... It'll be very hard to say no!!

Been invited to friends on Saturday night - always potentially very boozy as they have a flat which we can stay in if necessary, thinking about offering to drive and leaving dog at home (we usually take her with us to stay over too!!) then I will not have to drink. Thing is I will want to be home, tucked up in bed by 9.00pm and be as grumpy as hell!!!!

Just have to keep thinking about the improvement to health and at this moment in time bank balance!!!

You are all doing so well, but how many of us should be joining the AA?? It seems that when you dont drink you spend all day thinking about it!!!!!

I would like to be a JAFA but dont know what number upto any chance of letting me know!!:j

    Hi OliveOyl,
I stopped drinking on the 1st and had the same problem; which surprised me as in the past when I've stopped sleeping hasn't been an issue.
However reading your post made me realise that over the past couple of nights I'm falling asleep much faster. Unfortunately not waking when the alarm goes off though.
It does make me wonder if I'm really tired or if it's just my body taking longer to get back into routine?
Onto the positives....I am getting to the stage where I'm not 'missing' something in the evening :j and beginning to enjoy the fact I'm not drinking (think it's mainly not having to feel guilty for drinking a bottle of wine a night!)
Fingers crossed your body adjusts quickly!
  • Olive oyl, I am having exactly the same problem! Can't get to sleep, then can't stay asleep but then have slept through my alarm every day this week! Hope it sorts itself out soon and we start to relax a bit!

Plus my skin is suddenly terrible! Anyone else got this? Or do I just have more toxins than everyone else making their way out? (Bleurgh!)
