Alcohol Free Jan and Monthly Debt Decrease Challenge

For health and money saving reasons I've decided not to drink through the month of January - and to cut down for the rest of the year. I don't drink a lot, but the odd £10 and £20 certainly adds up throughout the month!
Also, having had my lightbulb moment just a couple of months ago, I know I've been spending far less, and have my finances in much better order, but as of yet I don't know exactly how much I've been managing to pay off my debt each month...
So, in my signature I've put my finances as of Dec Payday. In Jan, I will add my new totals and the amount I've paid off my debt to make it easier to log.
This is clearly a challenge for beginners, and those just beginning to sort their problems out, but seeing everyone else's totals might motivate some, either through guilt or success!!
At the end of 2008, everyone who participates in this challenge can submit their totals for the year.

well done for biting the bullet and joining here. It's always tiny little steps which make the difference and you have started well. Have you started a spending diary? Have you worked out your budget? All helpful things which help you get in control of things.
I'd join you with the no drinking but i'd be cheating as i'm teatotal.
Good luck and hang in there you'll make it.0 -
Hiya Cassie.
I will join you in attempting to have an alcohol free January. I drink loads (at least 4 cans/a bottle a night) but I've had 5 alcohol free days out of the last 7 so to join someone who is also trying this might help.
Just to check - it starts from Jan 1st, yes? I can't face Xmas with my family sober....All comments made and advice given are my own opinions and do not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.
Current balance: approx £17500 including Tax Credit Overpayment
Estimated DFD: never - deficit budget. Cheers HMRC!
Another year over and we're still together. It's not always easy, but I'm here forever0 -
Hi Cassie
I'll join the debt decrease club - I'm new to this and getting to grips with my budgeting and snowballing.
I don't drink much, but I made Baileys on the cheap and have to drink it all before it goes off. I will promise to give that up in January!0 -
Yeah no drinking in Jan starts from the 1st. I should save at least £80 for the month!Lightbulb moment Oct 2007

I'm not joining in, but I just wanted to wish you all luck. I stopped drinking in August, and although it was hard at first, it's alot easier now. You do need your friends to support you with it though.0

I shall join in too, this should help me to keep within my £330 budget per month....... till then..... :beer:0

I'll join in on this one - I did a month alcohol free in summer and felt great after it! I've already cut down after 1 too many drunken night out! Think i'll stick the extra January cash in a pot to see how much i get at the end of the month
Although Hayley1471 how do you make baileys???? It's my weakness and if i could make it i'd be soooo happyWondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...0
