Failed miserably ...No excuses really ..
Sat talking with a mate who is thinking a divorce is on the horizon ...He needed a drink ...and it seems I let that sell me on the idea ..
I have a bad head and am behind on my scheduled fitting of new bath ...
Well done all those who held out ...
If this was a game of snakes and ladders I would have just landed on a snake ...0 -

I have never suffered from OCD but did have depression when I was off work with back problems. This led to anxiety attacks and trouble sleeping. Since I had never heard, or had any understanding, of anxiety attacks it was very frightening at the time. My dad, who had suffered from depression before, helped me get through this without seeking professional help. After my back got better the depression and symptoms went away over night. The symptoms included a fixation with dying and also completely unreasonable thoughts about something horrible happening to family and friends. Weird!!
Anyway, I found drink made me get through the going to bed stage as you've suggested, but when I did sleep it was not as deep a sleep and I felt worse during the day. I found that warm milk and reading before bed ended up being more beneficial, and not watching TV for an hour before bed time also helped.
Speaking to someone who has been through the same is by far the best therapy. It makes you feel a whole lot more normal. I thought I was going loopy.
I've decided to join this challenge now to save money and lose weight, also the OH thinks I'm a grumpy git when I've had a few days on the wine. I'll see how it goes, I'm 12 hours into it. :T0 -

Hi globalds!
I was being honest about the wine but am failing miserably on the 'giving up smoking'
I shouldn't really have bragged in this thread but couldn't face 'owning up' on the other! I'm trying to see the positive steps I'm taking rather than focusing on the negative.....cheating I know but I'm human!
Sometimes mates need us, sounds like you made the right choice last night. I've been there a few times (supporting a mate I mean; I've done the divorce thing once, lesson well & truly learned!) making your mate feel comforted was the most important thing.
Today's a new day! Good luck!0 -
It's 9.30pm and the half bottle of Shiraz in the kitchin is calling to me, drink me, drink me. I'm on my sixth cup of tea just to take my mind of it. Being on a 2500 calorie diet isn't helping much either.0

Just 5 days into the challenge and I fell off the wagonI feel I have a total lack of control and am very angry with myself, I was really excited about doing the whole of January and now I've blown it
Although it's funny as I felt soooo guilty opening the 1st can last night, with each subsequent can the guilt got less :rotfl: this morning I feel terrible - not hangover terrible (think I must be a hardened drinker ), but like I've let myself down
Sorry for the miserable post, I'm off for my 4th cup of coffee now......DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

Hi jo1972,
Sorry about last night just proves how difficult habits are to break!
Try and think positively you've given your body 4 days break already in Jan and we're only in the first week!
It's an ambitious target a month without alcohol, well it definitely is for me as I usually drink wine every day (just far too much of it!!)
I've got rid of any red wine from the house to help with temptation, I have other alcoholic drinks but red wine is my problem and the rest don't interest me.
Maybe you could stash your favoured tipple at someone else's house?
I've also made sure I avoid going to the shops any time after 4pm; no idea why but I tend to weaken about that point and end up buying a bottle.
Good luck for today!0 -
Tonight will be my 7th night with no alcohol. Tonight and next week are going to be hard going as I'm back to work tomorrow after a fotnight off and I'm not looking forward to it. Usually I like to come home after work and grab a glass (or 2 or 3) with my dinner to help me wind down.
I think I'll be spending lots of time in the bath!!:)Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts - DFW Nerd 323

Lesley, I'm the same, around 4pm, the Pavlov dog bell rings
Lelc, this is half of my problem, there is nothing better than taking a cold beer into the bath, I think I might have a body odour problem by the end of Jan :rotfl:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
