Still doing ok here! Really enjoyed my first alcohol free weekend. Played lots of board games and feel so relaxed for a Monday morning it's amazing!

This is my day 7 of no drinking. Also same for smoking. Sooo nice to feel normal on a Monday morning- can't remember the last time I didn't drink over the weekend. Usually drink at least one glass a wine every night (if not half a bottle!) so hoping clothes feel a bit looser too !
    Well done to everyone.

I slid off the wagon Saturday night, nothing more than a case of cooking the chicken fajhitas (sp?) and thinking why not ? Same again yesterday afternoon just before Sunday roast. Just two halves each time, but I really could do without them !

This evening will be different though.

This is my 8th day and my first day back at work. I am just about to go home and I suddenly have the urge for a glass of wine!! I knew today would be the real test:sad:

  • Argh, must be strong! This is my 7th day without a drink and was already trying to resist the urge to buy wine on the way home but now there is a party going on at my work and there's free champagne and everything! I keep catching my brain going "well it doesn't cost you anything" but I know if I succumb now I'll never get back on the challenge!

    Wish me luck!

First night for me and I'm actually feeling quite worried - this is surely not a good sign!! There is a couple of glasses left in yesterday's bordeaux - tempting but I should give them to DH,
    better get dinner on...

Some folks are doing really well ...Some are ....going... to do really well..
I can't believe i've only drunk one night since new year ....
I will be honest and have to say I think Friday nights are going to be tricky for me ...
So far i'm not too tempted by the fridge full of booze ...I'm quite enjoying the strange feeling of craving ...Sounds pretty bad ....Yep ,had a deep think about it and ..Craving is the right word .
So hows the rest of us going .
Hope your flu gets better soon yellowmonkey ...I think maybe it's just the effects of going cold turkey :) .... You can go and see your GP ...He'll give you some tablets to take the edge off :)
I'm not making any more cocky jokes ...I'll probably start seeing giant rabbits sat on the end of my bed from tonight ...
Lets keep encouraging each other though ...If some one had told me last week I would have hardly drunk I wouldn't have believed them .

well, so far so good especially as DH is tucking into a little [STRIKE]bucket[/STRIKE] glass of red. Miss it though!
Off to bed now as I have an early start tomo and it'll help me stop feeling sorry for myself. Looking forward to feeling clear and bright in the morning!

Day 8 and I can honestly say this has never happened to me- no drinking most days that is. I don't feel like I even want to drink at the moment and keep remembering particulary embarrassing 'moments' whilst under the influence.

So far- no booze or fags for 7 days works out at a saving of £20 on cigarettes based on 10 a day and I reckon about the same for wine. So I'm up £40. And feel so proud of myself !!

Went for a run around the block last night too after a body pump class at the gym....

It's nice to know I'm giving my body a break. Keeps me going if I think of the programme with Michelle Heaton last week about binge drinking. 1 bottle of wine is a binge !!

Hows everyone else today? (Sorry for butting in your thread BTW)

  • Hi Everyone, this is my first post, tho' been lurking since around the middle of November as Totally Skint!! Done many things to cut down and keep spending diary etc. - very scarey.

I too want at the very least an alcohol free January (a full year would be even better, but can't see that happening!!). Last drink New Years Eve did really well until Saturday - no red wine didn't buy any so thought I would be 'safe' but Oh NO - couple of glasses of port, lovely homemade fish pie for tea and started on the white wine (don't usually like white only red!). Then some friends came round (don't go out any more, can't afford it!) and another bottle of white and a gin and tonic later.....................VERY VERY CROSS.

I have enjoyed waking up fresh and ready to go in the morning and must remember that feeling! Sadly fell off again last night so Even More Cross today!!!

I am now determined to do better after reading all your posts its great to know that there are so many similar people out there!!!

Keep those posts coming and I am looking forward to saving more money and feeling fab (well most of the time anyway!). Sadly we keep being given alcohol bottle of port and sherry yesterday from MIL! As skint never like to say no to freebies......................

Please, please can I join this challenge???

PS this is a brilliant web site, which has really made me sit up and think about spending etc. Hopefully, now I've started posting I will not stop!!!:rotfl:
  • Welcome notapenny! Keep going - loads of people have had a little slip up, but it's not the end of the world. Get back on the horse (wagon!) if you fall off!

Going good this end. Felt tempted last night but the boyfriend told me off!!
